News Sources You Use

Since no one asked (and that's my usual motivation for shitposting articles in which I often (mis)represent the very articles I link within the posts I ramble blurbs about) I figured I'd scribble some thoughts on the news sources I use and the how and why I choose them since 90% of the posts I vomit on this forum tend to be me inaccurately and absurdly sperging about this article or that one that I link in my post in an attempt to foment conversation or shamelessly boost my post count/bump threads.

And keep in mind, this is for news articles on websites. I love OANN (One America News) when they have their hard news programming. And there's loads of Video Channels with great content, but I prefer reading news articles to watching videos for news typically speaking.

So when I act like a mentally challenged news aggregate, my main philosophy beyond the sources themselves is this...

I prefer Local Sourced News Organizations, Specialist News Organizations and (Some) Foreign News Organizations to National Corporate Ones generally.

For example if there's a domestic story, I'd prefer linking to some (probably Godlessly Liberal) Local newspaper then to CNN or ABC News or Washington Post etc. Unfortunately most local newspapers are paywalled but there's a lot of local radio and television station news websites that aren't. Sure they maybe affiliates owned by Godless Liberal companies, but at least my clicks are filtered through a local affiliate instead of dumped directly into the lap of said organizations.

If there's a specialist story like a SCIENCE! story, I'd rather go to Space.com, Phys.org or Live Science etc then go to Buzzfeed or NBCNews or Wall Street Journal. I have no idea the editorial direction or platform of the above sites, but I'd rather post a link from a semi-reputable website and give them my clicks then the corporate media. Or if it's a tech story I'd rather read it off 9to5mac.com or androidauthority.com then TheVerge or CNet. Not because I agree with the formers editorial practices... I have no idea what they are, but just because... SPITE and I'd choose someone who can at least profess specialization in the topic then some internet based web reporter from one of those crappy progressive tech sites.

Likewise if there's an international story, I'll try and find a foreign newspaper (news source) that's close to the news story if practical then vapid corporate American news media.

With that out of the way, my preferred news sources if I'm scrolling for a story to read and maybe link:

"Mainstream" News Sources:

The Hill - A News Organization that tries to be nonpartisan and if it had an editorial slant, could be inferred as being right of center, if only mildly. If it's news from Washington and vaguely related to politics, don't go to the shitty Washington Post, go here and check it out first.

Politico - Like the above, but perhaps a bit more moderate Democratic Left of Center overall.

Reuters - Reuters isn't as expansive as AP News in the States, but it hasn't suffered from the bias decay that AP News has over the years. For generic news wire stories, I choose Reuters over the Associated Press almost whenever I can.

USA Today - USA Today is basically a slightly left of center (used to be right of center or moderate but hey... all good things come to an end) and as national newspapers go, I'd go with the USA Today more then other national newspapers, like the NY Times or Washington Post or Wall Street Journal (all four of which are paywalled oftentimes anyways).

Al Jazeera - Al Jazeera is based in Qatar and IMHO their hard news is just as nonpartisan as the BBC's in most cases. And they cover just as much world news, and Middle East news as any other news organization. And yes I know decades ago they supposedly had links to Islamic Extremism, but I guess I'd rather support decades old allegations of Islamic Extremism abroad then very real modern links to Left Wing and Progressive Extremism in America. :p

South China Morning Post - For news of the Asia-Pacific and China specifically, the SCMP based out of Hong Kong is my choice. It's actually owned by Jack Ma I think, but somehow they've still managed to be editorially independent, so good on the journalists there. But yeah, my first choice for news from that part of the world.

FoxNews - If I have to choose a vapid mainstream corporate media story, I'll choose the news organization that agrees with me and my ideas far more then I would an equivalent channel like CNN, or MSNBC for which I have absolutely nothing in common with. Moderately right wing, very establishment.

BBC News - They can have a fair number of problems though many are associated with BBC in general and typically they can be pretty good for general news, especially around the world. Just be aware of their general POV. Worse comes to worse, I'd rather have clicks for a non-profit nationalized British media company then giving clicks to crappy American media companies.

New York Daily News - This is as left as you want to go with liberal newspapers. If your too triggered to read the New York Post and too smart to trust the New York Times, maybe you can find comfort in this left of center aligned newspaper that has been the traditional newspaper of New Yorks 'Working Class' over the decades.

APNews - For being independent news wires, AP News feels like the worst of the three with their editorialized titles and often articles as well. They are the most used by American media sources of course, so that makes sense and is a representative of the collective ree'ing of all of America's often liberal newspapers.

Right of Center News Sources

The problem with 'right wing news sources' beyond the fact that they are politically "correct" in their slant/bias is that a lot of Conservative websites/papers don't have as broad coverage of news that liberal and leftists news websites often do with a few exceptions like Fox News and the NY Post. Speaking of which...

New York Post - It's the tasteful newspaper of record for Donald Trump and it should be yours as well. Fairly strong right of center editorial slant and coverage that isn't a shill for liberal media elites and yet not completely red like many of the sources I'll discuss below.

Business & Politics Review (BizPac) - A very nice Conservative news website that has a nice focus on business and even technology and economic news stories that are often overlooked by other right wing media.

National Post - It's like the New York Post if it was a Canadian Newspaper. So yeah... not as awesome as the New York Post but it tries.

Breitbart - It's like more broad news coverage then the Federalist or National Review and its right wing editorial slant bleeds out into regular news stories. Also more populist. Still it's the biggest and broadest website of its kind out there, a step below in size and scope then Fox News or the NY Post and another step rightward (and not as establishment as National Review).

Just The News - They actually try to bring me Just The News! Nice tidy site with excellent reportage.

Washington Times - The Washington Times is nice, the only problem is for such a 'big' newspaper it's articles and coverage its literally small... as in the news articles often barely scratch the surface of the very interesting issues they are covering.

The Epoch Times - Sometimes I love their coverage, sometimes I wonder if they're reporting from Mars, the RED Planet.

These are more like Right Wing versions of style commentary/news analysis/ blog websites or magazines IMHO. Like a Right Wing version of Huffingont Post... I post them in general sequence of increasingly Right Wing :p

The Federalist - Of all of the 'right wing' news websites, The Federalist is my favorite. It feels the most intellectual and professional of the bunch with often thoughtful (and sometimes cringey) pieces and still somewhat fresh and relevant and mainstream.

The National Review - The main publication for the Conservative ESTABLISHMENT which still puts it light years ahead of most of its left wing alternatives. Lots of content and editorials and columns from people whose name you may recognize.

The American Thinker - This website makes my little brain feel like a big brain when I read here.

Red State - More establishment (anti-Trump) then some of the other Right Wing websites but also more Red then many sources regardless.

Daily Caller - Tucker Carlson and his Indian friend Neil Patel helped found this, as AOC calls it "White Nationalist" website. Lovely stuff here.

Rebel Media - If AOC thinks the Daily Caller is White Nationalist, this website founded by Gavin McInnes is literally filled with Nazis then. Worth a gander.

Tech/Gaming Websites

Ages ago I asked about sources for gaming news and while there are a lot of YouTube channels out there (The Quartering, Upper Echelon Games, Clownfish TV etc etc) there wasn't as many websites to counter the shitty Polygon's and IGN's and Kotaku's of the world. But there's some...

PC Gamer - If I want to go mainstream nerd news, this is my pick. Still has problems but alas...

TechRadar - It's more tech then gaming but refreshingly nonpartisan for the most part, or at least non-hysterical.

Dualshockers - Been reading this website off and on for a while and I have no idea their editorial slant... which is a bonus for me. So they make the list since they seem to not be obsessed with the social justice most gaming news and journalism is.

Nichegamer - Delightfully unapologetically nonpartisan but as the site name says, very Niche oftentimes so it lacks broad coverage. Also very weeb... so that's a thing that can be a plus or minus (if your uncultured).

Eurogamer - If I desire mainstream gaming shill news, I choose Eurogamer since it might be shilling, but at least it (sometimes) curbs on the social commentary preaching.

But my favorite website for any news on a Left Wing website?

It's great, I don't even have to click on the news article... just copy the link and paste it here... half the time someone else already rehosted it.

Anywho... that's my spiel... what you guys got?[/hr]

Reason.com is the best by far. It's a libertarian aligned news organization, with the benefit that no libertarians are in power, so they hate everyone in power, which makes them relatively balanced on the left/right axis (with no balance at all on the authoritarian/libertarian axis, obviously, but you win some, you lose some).

In addition to the above, these were kind of circling around in my brain but I didn't commit to posting them up the first time around.

Bounding Into Comics - I have no idea the background behind this website but it is pretty good (and often a rare source) in pop culture for non-mainstream and non-Leftist takes in Pop Culture. I usually don't like watching YouTube videos reacting to Woke or SJW or Censorious pop culture nonsense going on, I still prefer reading articles and oftentimes Bounding Into Comics is one of the few websites to cover such things.

Geeks And Gamers - Similar to the above but they also have a YouTube channel which is fairly popular (and which I don't really watch). Their written content is decent enough, but I like the Tweets their staff and writers often issue which contain nice nuggets of information that arise from pop culture and their hot takes on it. I wish there was more content on their website since their sort of editorial POV is so rare in "print" pop culture media but what they have already is pretty good in and of itself.

Not the Bee - Written by the same people who do the satirical Babylon Bee website, Not the Bee though just collects all of those stories that ruthlessly violate Poe's Law where reality is indistinguishable from satire. It has more of a blog/commentary style format since it's often reacting to news published elsewhere but usually skewering the inherent and oft unrecognized madness going on in the world, and often in how mainstream society and journalists are covering the story.

Daily wire is one of my regular and favorite ones. I listen to the Ben Shapiro show daily. They have a lot of good articles and content on the site.
