Official First Family portrait of Republic of Korea President Chun Doo-hwan; Republic of Korea First Lady Madam Lee Soon-ja and their four children.
"Seeing President and Mrs. Reagan arriving in the Republic of Korea is a historic moment for both of our countries, which will cement the ROKUS Alliance for generations forever."
ROK President Chun Doo-hwan
November 12, 1983.

Following the shocking assassination of then-ROK President Park Chung-hee by the KCIA on October 26, 1979, the Republic of Korea quickly descended into total and utter chaos.

Under the cover of "maintaining national security", the Defense Security Command which was being run by Chun quickly gained influence inside the government: intelligence briefings of the KCIA (Korean Central Intelligence Agency) were being sent to Chun inside his office at the ROK Army Defense Security Command Headquarters 24/7. Members of the administration of ROK President Choi Kyu-hah (who ascended to the Presidency upon Park's assassination) were being aggressively influenced by Chun and his subordinates.

During this period: concerned about the welfare and safety of the family of then-President Park Chung-hee, Chun personally gave $500,000 USD and likely more to Park's eldest daughter (and future ROK President) Park Geun-hye. When word reached Army Chief of Staff General Jeong Seung-hwa, he reprimanded and viciously scolded Chun during a closed door meeting; Chun was determined to NOT let anyone humiilate him like that again.

Hanahoe, the secretive group of high-ranking ROK Army commissioned officers (which included Chun and his close friends from the KMA) became strongly aggressive and applied persuasive tactics by courting government officials by pledging new positions "in the new administration". Chun had obstacles in his path of completing his ambitious of leading the Republic of Korea: Army Chief of Staff General Jeong Seung-hwa and President Choi Kyu-hah.

Chun subsequently ordered all intelligence briefings to now be sent to his office at 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM everyday, so he could decide what information to be given to higher command. In one quick move, Chun quickly took control of the entire country's national intelligence agencies. He also put the KCIA Deputy Chief of Foreign Affairs in charge of running the day-to-day business of the KCIA.

From the personal PoV of Army Major Park Jun-kwang, who worked under Chun at the ROK Armed Forces Defense Security Command, who commented on the situation at the time:
"In front of the most powerful organisations under the Park Chung-hee presidency, it surprised me how easily [Chun] gained control over them and how skillfully he took advantage of the circumstances. In an instant, he seemed to have grown into a giant."

In the following month before the coup, Chun, Roh Tae-woo, Yu Han-seong, Heo San-su and many others from the 11th graduating class of 1955 of the Korean Military Academy continued taking advantage of the fragile and tenuous political crisis by aggressively growing the strentgh of Hanahoe including courting key military commanders as well as openly subverting the nation's intelligence organizations.

Fast forward to December 12, 1979: The 12.12.79 Incident began when Chun's loyal forces arrested Army Chief of Staff General Jeong Seung-hwa; General Jang Tae-wan, commander of the Capitol Garrison Command and General Jeong Byoeng-ju, commander of the Special Forces were also arrested by the rebel troops. Despite a violent gunfight between soldiers fighting fellow soldiers, the 29th Regiment, 9th Division along with the 1st and 3rd Brigades invaded downtown Seoul supporting the 30th and 33rd Security Group loyal to Chun. Almost immediately, Chun was in total control of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces once the rebel troops took control of the Ministry of Defense and the Army Headquarters.

Following a more aggressive and violent deadlier coup in Gwangju, when Chun's loyalist military troops violently cracked down on protesters and outside agitators during the 05.18-27.80 Incident including the dissolution of the National Assembly, enforcing reeducation camps, etc., Chun was promoted to Lieutenant General and the four-star rank of General, he also served as the Director of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency.

Following taking over full control of the entire government and everything else, Chun retired from the Republic of Korea Army on August 22, 1980 after 25 years. Upon the resignation of President Choi on August 16, 1980, Chun's path to the Blue House (Residence of the ROK President) was pretty much assured: On August 27, 1980, the members of the National Conference for Unification met at the Jangchung Arena to vote in the indirect election for the Presidency and Chun was the sole candidate. He garnered 2,524 votes with 99.99% of the vote with 1 invalid vote; this was done to differentiate from North Korean dictator Kim II Sung's indirect election victories; Chun was inaugurated as the Republic of Korea's 11th President at the Jamsil Arena. He was reelected by the National Conference on February 25, 1981 against three minor candidates garnering 4,755 votes with 90.23% of the vote and inaugurated for a second term as the 12th President on March 3, 1981, which also took place at the Jamsil Arena and again in December 1987 winning 83.73% of the vote and was inaugurated for a third term as the 13th President on February 25, 1988 on the grounds of the National Assembly.

Somewhere in the Argentine Republic

"We need that information. Apply the voltage again!" Ernesto Brito pressed the button as the blind-folded kidnapped victim was being electric-shocked multiple times and screamed as he was beating hit hard with a wooden-like object across his back.

"You're gonna tell us where did you and those thugs in the Junta did with the body of the late General!" snarled Victoria Estevez as she once again wanted answers. "Where did you send the General's body?"

The victim was defiant saying "NEVER!" Frustrated with the victim's uppityism, she motioned one of her associates to press the button causing another electrical shock voltage.

The group holding the kidnapped blind-folded victim hostage and prisoner, were obvious staunch Peronistas: the super crazy ones. If you thought the kidnapping & assassination of Aramburu was something, this was going to take the cake and making the craziness of the Argentine Republic more JUICIER.

The General Assembly of the Republic of Korea

National Assembly, Seoul, Republic of Korea

US President Ronald Reagan addressing the Joint Session of the ROK National Assembly in Seoul.
Less than thirty minutes upon arriving at the US Embassy Residence, the Reagan's got back into the Presidential limousine and were driven down through the heart of Seoul as crowds waved American and Republic of Korea flags cheering. This was a moment that both Koreans and Americans (including those living in ROK on military bases, residences, etc.,) would never forget.

Ten minutes later, the motorcade (heavily guarded by security due to the threats from North Korea in the previous post) arrived at the National Assembly at 12:06 PM KST. There too, the Reagan's were well-received by high-ranking members of the ROK government including those serving in the National Assembly. Prior to the big speech, President and First Lady Reagan attended a tea inside the Speaker's Reception Room. Following the tea as well as the Meet & Greeting session, it was time for the historic address for the Gipper, who was making history as the third American President to address a joint sessin of the ROK National Assembly.

After being introduced by Chae Mun-shich, the Speaker of the National Assembly, President Reagan delivered his remarks:

"Speaker Chae, Vice Speaker Yun, Vice Speaker Koh, distinguished members of the National Assembly, and honored guests:

********************(Here's some highlights of Reagan's speech)********************
I'm privileged to be among such friends. I stand in your Assembly as Presidents Eisenhower and Johnson have stood before me. And I reaffirm, as they did, America's support and friendship for the Republic of Korea and its people.

Not long after the war on this peninsula, your President paid a visit to Washington. In his remarks at the state dinner, President Eisenhower spoke of the Korean people's courage, stamina, and self-sacrifice. He spoke of America's pride in joining with the Korean people to prevent their enslavement by the North. In response, your first President expressed his country's deep, deep appreciation for what America had done. He concluded by saying, "I tell you, my friends, if I live hundreds of years, we will never be able to do enough to pay our debt of gratitude to you."

Well, I have come today to tell the people of this great nation: Your debt has long been repaid. Your loyalty, your friendship, your progress, your determination to build something better for your people has proven many times over the depth of your gratitude. In these days of turmoil (Reagan had no clue of what a sinister group was plotting against him the next day: more on that later in Chapter 2) and testing, the American people are very thankful for such a constant and devoted ally. Today, America is grateful to you."

Somewhere in Seoul, Republic of Korea

While everyone was distracted with covering the Reagan's State Visit to the Republic of Korea, in the meantime, Julia and her group of ruthless assailants had already arrived in Seoul just a few weeks earlier. Following a meeting of contingency plans including options in case the original plan backfired, Julia decided to check the designated location out herself.

Masquerading as a female news journalist named "Lim Una-kyuh" Julia checked out the ROK Army 1st Corps Headquarters where the President was going to be attending military exercise festivities the next day. Then she used binoculars and noticed a large grassy area where nobody would notice "Perfect. Just where I'll be sitting watching the entire thing"

Following heading back to the hotel in the outskirts of Seoul, Julia locked the door, removed all of her clothes and slowly peeled off the latex mask skin suit from head to toe, "Much better, time to get showered up and resting up for tomorrow's big mission" she smiled as she walked naked and barefoot into the bathroom and took a shower. Once she was finished, she dried off; walked out of the bathroom without wearing a towel; got into the bed and went to sleep.

Somewhere in the outskirts of Sao Paulo, Brazil

"I was sitting in my room scared of what Julia was forcing me to do in this mission. Scared, nervous and shaking because of what the ramifications of the mission would have for the entire world.

After saying goodbye to my family because "I was going on vacation in Korea for a few days" and drove to the airport, got my tickets, my luggage and after inspection of my personal belongings, I managed to get aboard on the plane which took off at 3:20 PM.

The flight was somewhat long considering it was a slow direct flight and I had explained to Julia earlier that "It's going to take me awhile to get to the Republic of Korea so be patient." I put my headphones on and listened to relaxing Brazilian smooth jazz music during the entire flight and considering it was mostly Brazilians of all ethnicities, I felt comfortable and went to sleep during the height of the flight.

By the time we landed in Seoul, it was 6:00 PM KST. Once I got my luggage and other personal effects, I stepped off the plane and breathed some fresh air; walking toward an intriguing black windowless van, I noticed Julia's red hair and those dark sunglasses motion me to get in "I see you finally showed up. Get in because we've got some very important associates to meet for the upcoming mission tomorrow.

Feeling scared and intimidated by Julia's tone and aggressive nature, I pretended to listen to the aspects of the mission but the flashbacks from a few months earlier when Julia threatened to kill my entire family, I had no other choice but to follow orders and see the mission through all the way."

US President Ronald Reagan, US First Lady Nancy Reagan, ROK President Chun Doo-hwan and ROK First Lady Lee Soon-ja greeting distinguished guests.

The State Dinner at the Blue House was an amazing event, which was a magnificent setting in the strong lifelong iron-clade ROKUS Alliance despite disagreements over policy throughout the years. From the personal perspective of President Reagan on the events of November 12th:
"Just a short time for a nap and change into Tux then back to the Blue House for a state dinner. On the way there, we stopped at the US Embassy to meet with a group of leading Koreans and Americans; however, we could only stay for a few minutes------we were delayed because one of the bomb sniffing dogs acted up about an elevator shaft. Other dogs were brought in, they didn't act as if there was a problem.
On to the State Dinner: which was a magnificent setting. My partner, Mrs. Chun. She is a most delightful person. She and Nancy buddied up like two school chums. Afterward, Korean entertainment and it was magic, the grace and beauty of the performers was like nothing we've ever seen. I wish I could bring them to America."

Our first Italian-American President in the future? ;)
Nope. That will be his son Andrew: I'm working on the Keep America Free timeline right now.

Chapters 1 and 2 will focus on the backlash against Andrew on that timeline.

On Papa Cuomo: he'll be in Chapter 6 of this timeline and let's just say he'll give Bush Sr., a run for his $$$$ in the 1988 Presidential election.

PS: Slowly putting Chapter 2 together. Working on the violent ambush at ROK Army 1st Corps Headquarters in Seoul that results in the Gipper's death.
