Representative Elijah Cummings has passed away at the age of 68 due to complications of his Health. He passed early this Thursday morning on October 17 2019. I am by no means a fan of the man, but he is deserving of respect for his service and for his passing.

I don't agree; I hold no respect for the man at all. However, as a fellow human being, while he may not have my respect he does have my sympathy, as do his friends and family for their loss.

He was a pretty ideologically liberal and very combative in in partisanship in the Halls of Congress but unlike Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff, he actually had workable friendships with Congresspeople on the other side of the aisle including Darrell Issa, Jason Chaffetz and Mark Meadows etc and were able to work with them on actual issues of bipartisan agreement. Plus I can't ignore the fact he was the son of sharecroppers which was the closest thing to slavery post-slavery and how successful he became in comparison despite such humble beginnings. On those two personal levels he was pretty admirable.

I'm sure my respect for him will grow a bit as Democrats start banally invoking Elijah Cummings name as a rallying cry to support impeachment and whatever other hyperpartisan issues they want to pursue or hit their loyal opposition with in the media without actually doing anything.

I think he was accomplished, and that sense I do respect the accomplishment.
