Things get worse in The Southwest

Im just going to ask a very simple question.

Do you personally know of any one who likes my state?

And don't say washington or Oregon, secretly both of them would be pleased as punch if we were taken down a notch.

People from other states? No, that includes myself and I live here. I mean, there are nice things, but the politics of the main urban areas and the sheer fuckwaddery of the politicians are amazingly bad. I wouldn't live here if I didn't have to.

For contrast, I have lived in Chicago, Scotland (Fife), and Tucson before coming to the LA area.

Well, actually…

…d’oh, ninja’d

Anyway, yes, I fully expect someone, if not Newsom himself then some high-ranking politician, to pull a Gretchen Whitmer on travel.

Anyway, @Cherico sure I like your state…redwoods, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, the Golden Gate Bridge, its importance as part of the U.S. intermodal shipping system that’s actually on par with the Panama Canal for shipping things from Atlantic to Pacific, and, of course, Napa and Sonoma Valley wines…

As for the rest…well, I’m a lifelong New Jerseyan so I totally get the whole “shaking your head at the idiots running your state and the even bigger idiots who keep voting them back in” thing. Though we just got slapped down by SCOTUS this week for some shenanigans or other but I forget what. I do know we deserved it.

Oh California has done much to derail their inherent supply chain advantage.

Companies are/ have moved to shipping to Vancouver, rail-heading across Canada, then to US.

Others are shipping to the Gulf / East coast, just not worth transporting through California.

You have every advantage California, yet you just keep screwing the goat.

With all due respect, as long as Harris is breathing, CA will NEVER be a Red State ever again.

On the 2021 Recall election: Newsom will NOT be recalled from the Governorship.

California has suddenly changed the rules on how recall elections work to protect Newsom.

This essentially cuts off everybody else's change to campaign and moves the date up to just after Cali ends their shutdowns, calculated to maximize Newsom's popularity as things suddenly get better.

This is actually a very bad move.

The smart move was to offer up Newsom as a scapegoat blame everything on him and bring in a more charsimatic democrat to replace him. Circling the wagons around some one who has managed to more or less piss of a very large segment of the population is a unwise decision.

You can bet your ass that's going to face a court challenge.

what's the saying? "never interrupt an enemy who's about to make a mistake"

I mean, one would hope so, but the courts have failed to do anything about this kind of stuff. The same kind of bullshit happened in Virginia back before the plague and nothing ever came of that.

So what will the Dems do if a Republican is elected to office and they can't use a recall vote to get rid of him?
Unless they also have a Republican legislature, they will then change how recall votes work again to get rid of him. And since California is massively gerrymandered, you can't get a Republican legislature there. That's pretty much what hobbled all of The Governator's attempts at reform, everything he tried to do was shot down by various means and ended in deadlock at best.

Being followed when they leave the house. Being shown pictures of a bullet-ridden truck with a person still inside. Encountering aggressive drivers on roads. Having illegal grow houses next door. Having water stolen from their farms. These are some of the examples of what northern Los Angeles County residents say they have experienced by the people who are running illegal marijuana farms.

Romantic Los Angeles County has a cartel problem. For some unfathomable reason, despite legalizing it, there are apparently dozens of Cartel owned and operating illegal pot farms that exist in Southern California and they basically exist in plain sight. Since the start of the pandemic, over 500 illegal pot operations have been identified in North Los Angeles county and these illegal operations outnumber the legal pot businesses 50 to 1.

Last June there was an Operation to shut many of these places down but in a ten day campaign only 40% of the known pot farms were hit. In those operations over $1.2 billion in marijuana was seized and almost a hundred firearms also confiscated. More operations had to be cut short due to lack of funding because law enforcement budgets have been slashed for some mysterious reason.

Thanks to the massive expansion of this harmless business, the neighbors of these pot farms have reported being intimidated, followed and threatened by the operators of said farms which in many cases persist in operation even after law enforcement operations have been engaged against them. Some locals reported being unable to hike in the public land and wilderness areas near their home because the cartel workers have threatened them. Also being reported is widespread water theft since pot plants are so thirsty.

Townhall said:
Garcia told me he believes part of the reason why the expansion of illegal pot farms got out of hand is because officials viewed the product as harmless but did not factor in those who operate the farms. He also said the increase in illegal grows and cash going to the cartels is a byproduct of the current crisis at the southern border.

"Right now what the cartels have in the local areas now: unlimited resources, a zero-cost basis crop, and they've got effectively free indentured labor and the bench for that is extremely deep. Basically, an unlimited employee base to tap into as these borders are open," he said, noting they are around 200 miles north of the border and yet the cartels are operating with a lot of freedom in his district.

Villanueva told the meeting many of the workers they took into custody during the operation were in the country illegally and some had come to the United States only a week before. While he said he does not get involved in immigration enforcement, he did say the border needs to be secured to stem the "steady supply" of workers coming into the country illegally to work the farms.

I realize that it's Twitter and thus grotesquely unrepresentative of anything, but the comments make me think that we deserve a dictatorship. The degree of bootlicking would be called out in fiction as unrealistic.

"As a city we respect free speech but also have a duty to "call out" speech that does not reflect our city or values."

- Anaheim, California Mayor Mike Lyster

So brave to endorse the Joseph Goebbels level of freedom of speech. As long as the speech reflects our values...

What they don't mention.

Per Larry Elder’s twitter-

“The Secretary of State is either saying that we did not redact sufficient info on my returns, or we redacted info that should not have been redacted.

The Secretary of State could have made the supposedly required redaction(s), but elected not to. We're trying to ascertain the details.

The Secretary of State spent the weekend talking to one reporter after another, telling them that candidates who did not qualify had been notified. They did not bother to contact my campaign until late Sunday afternoon, via email to my campaign manager.

Shortly thereafter, they shared the letter sent to my campaign manager with the media. Our lawyers tell us that no candidate has ever been previously disqualified due to redaction issues with income tax returns.

Finally, this also violates the equal protection clause of Art. I, § 7, of the California Constitution not to require Governor Gavin Newsom to comply with the same tax return disclosure requirement.”

FYI: California's Liberal Supreme Court voted 7-0 in Trump's favor in 2020 on this law. Larry will either win this case now or win at the Supreme Court.
