Tens of thousands of Chileans waving Rainbow flags decided to engage in rioting, looting and clashes with the police. This was done in support of a 'Yes' vote to scrap the thirty year old (Dictator-era) Chilean Constitution which is a referendum vote that will take place next Sunday, on October 25th.
These riots paralyzed much of the cities transportation networks in their Capital city of Santiago, the firebombing of police stations and the aforementioned burning down of local churches including the San Francisco Borja, a church that dates from the mid-19th Century.
However these riots still were insignificant to the ones that occurred a year prior in 2019 (these riots took place on their one year anniversary) which resulted in billions in damage and the death of over thirty people before the military was sent in to restore order.
