Are you tired of all the wokeness infesting western television? Do shows that involve guys dressed in spandex, punching other guys in rubber monster suit until they explode appeal to you? If so, then I invite you to come with me to the land of the rising sun, and explore a genre that is as of yet untouched* by the insanity that has infested western culture: tokusatsu.
Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Ultraman, Godzilla, GARO; all these franchises and more exist within the umbrella of tokusatsu, and I'd argue that it offers something for everyone. Now for those of you who are interested, but don't know how to go about watching it beyond the Godzilla movies, the only legal avenue I can direct you towards is Shout! Factory's online streaming service, Shout! Factory TV. Unfortunately, their selection is fairly mediocre; only offering a small taste of what's out there, and nothing that's more recent than Kamen Rider Kuuga (one of my favorite seasons of Kamen Rider, so I do recommend watching it), which was released in 2000. Crunchyroll does have more recent seasons of Ultraman for now, but Shout! Factory bought up exclusive licences for the entire franchise; so they're likely going to disappear from the former's streaming service, and show up on the latter's soon.
Ultimately, the best way to watch most of this stuff is to sail the high seas, and hunt down some fansubs; not that I'd endorse such behavior (at least, not on this forum), but it is what it is, and most of this stuff will likely never see a legal release here in the states anyways. With that said though; if anyone else watches this stuff, I'd really appreciate it if you would chime in and share your thoughts.
*Note: The genre itself as it exists in Japan is untouched; the western tokusatsu fanbase as a whole meanwhile, is pretty much a lost cause right now. Nearly everyone I've ever seen who talks about it on sites like Twitter or Youtube is a raging SJW; you've been warned.
