I have a question. Richard is alive and not in Hardy or Emroys realm. But...does Richards faith matter? We never got Rorys thoughts on Earths faiths like Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, ect ect. So lets say Richard is Christian. Does God have no domain on this world? I mean, Emroy sounds pretty accepting and kinda cool and all. But I got to imagine the soul of a Christian, Jew or Muslim wouldn't be too happy by being in his domain and not the one they were promised. Ya know?

This is an unpopular opinion but even the JF-17 is Buddhist despite what Paki propaganda you heard.

But you are right, most 4th and 5th Generation Jets are Christian. Even the Chinese latest jets were largely "inspired" by Judeo-Christian doctrine.

I suspect this plane isn't a true fifth gen but it does look pretty cool.

From North Island Naval Air Station in 1976 for the bicentennial.

VX-4 "The Evaluators" was a US Navy Testing and Evaluation (hence the nickname) that was active from 1952 through to 1994 testing and evaluating aircraft ranging from F7U Cutlasses and the F-10 SkyKnight up to the F-4 Tomcat and FA-18 Hornet.

They'd test (and evaluate) air launched guided missiles, radars, navigation systems, jammers, warning devices and much more. Some of the last testing (and evaluations) they were involved in included flying the FA-18C/D Hornets and testing (and evaluating) the AMRAAM air to air missile including for example developing tactics on their best employment.

They stopped playing with Phantoms in 1990 after having flown them for the better part of three decades.

What's old is new again.

Looks like some smart people realize a PBY with modern engines and electronics would be a very potent asset for a fight in the Pacific, as Coast Guard craft, or as part of the civie market.

Edit: The Navy should just advertise this coming down the pipe if they want more recruits; I think many people would sign up to fly and fight in one of these beauties.

Honestly pretty sure the tilt rotors fill most of its jobs
Technically they can.
Practically, tilt rotors have less range, plus they are much less fuel efficient and less optimized for cruising, nevermind landing on water, which has its own uses in things like rescues.
I've seen articles since years suggesting flying boats could be useful to USA for various recon and utility work at relatively low cost. Various nation's coast guards may also be interested.
It's basically a nifty thing that combines the range and endurance of a twin engine naval patrol plane and some capabilities of a naval helicopter in one package with one crew and one maintenance cost.

Amphibians still have their niche and Catalina is such a versatile design, give it a modern (in production) engine and up to date electronics, it would be popular in island transport and firefighting, I reckon militaries will turn their nose on the plane until a dire need to fill a role arises.

What engine do you think they will use, PT-6 maybe?
