Warhammer Warhammer General discussion thread: Now with 100% more Space Marines

Anyone here got a homebrew Space Marine Chapter? Part of the joy of the game is being able to create “your guys” after all.

I don't play astartes, but I run the "Lucky" 13th Cadian Regiment for Imperial Guard. I haven't gotten to play the newest edition, but in 8th I'd run a platoon of infantry, supported by 9 Basilisk Artillery pieces.

The infantry/heavy weapon teams provided board control, while my beautiful artillery erased enemy units I didn't want to see any more.

If points allowed I'd also add in an Enginseer, and Bullgryn squad. Love Bullgryns, I obliterated a full unit of genestealers with a bullgryn counter-charge one game, absolutely glorious.

You know...there is one thing I would like to happen to space marine minis....get rid of all of the gribblies! Make it to where purity seals, Aquila and such are optional. Make them easier to paint without 11,000 detail parts you have to do to make the mini complete.

I remember the 1st space marine boxed set. It was simple, it was easy. It was multi pose and this from the mid 80's.

As the Guard doesn’t perhaps get quite enough love, here’s a piece of music from the wonderful Legio Symphonica which I think encapsulates their courage and sacrifice.

Further to that I have to say, what makes the 40k universe one of my favourites is the simple fact that without the courage of the common soldier, humanity would have fallen long ago.

Only in death does duty end indeed...

Am following a sweetly silly WH40K SI fic on FF.
The idea of an Eldar girl being raised among Orkz has me up in stitches. Even if "foster daddy" is the SI, she still beyond any doubt be different than all those other Eldar girls ...

Also, the imagery! A nob size Ork holding an Eldar child which is making [HAPPY BABY NOISES] at him ... and showing signs of smug racial superiority while learning to walk ... and being presented to other greenies as "special type of Snotling" ...
"I dangled a Stikkbombz rattle in front of a giggling Laenae who tried to grasp the toy."

Might be a strange question to ask, but am I alone in despising what Games Workshop has done to Ollanius Pius? I know the Horus Heresy series made him important, made him a perpetual no less that had fought in battles across thousands of years, but…I feel like that somewhat defeats the point of him.

To me there is something deeply profound about a mere mortal man, a common soldier scared out of his wits, putting himself between his Emperor and a Mad God in the form of Horus Lupercal. He had no chance, no hope, only his duty. And on that day, against the Arch Traitor himself, the Imperial Guard held the fucking line.

TEATD preserves his moment of sacrifice, gives him a very epic final death. Not only that, he's pivotal in that he convinces the Emperor not to become a Chaos god to defeat Horus and gives him the only weapon that can kill Horus at this point,

Yeah now not only is he a perpetual but he's the first perpetual and significantly older than even the Emperor. He also was the Emperors original Warmaster before they had some disagreement over a tower of demon artifacts and lore that led to him shanking the Emperor and leaving.

That's so dumb. I don't think words can encompass how dumb that is. What's special about Ollenius is that he isn't special.
