Well, maybe they liked being buggered over by the Norse so much, that they've transplanted their fetish onto the country that successfully fended them off.
Come to think of it, as a German, what do you know about Norse activity in Germany? I'd imagine they'd have raided there at some point (for the Vikings, if there was a shoreline there was free real estate), but I have little knowledge of it.
I checked Wikipedia's "Viking Age" (yes, I know, boo me if you want), and the only mentions about Germany were of an Arch-bishof from then Bremen-Hamburg leading an army and defeating a danish viking army on the german north sea, which caused the Vikings to permanently retreat from the area of East Frisia. Little else about the german area, save that the vikings founded a trade-port called Hebedy on german soil. The map on the page shows that Frisia was subject to raids, but no scandinavian settlements save the area where Prussia's coast would be.

Lol, unless I'm mistaken, the Vikings raided for plunder and glory. What they should have done is allow you to immerse yourself into the Viking Culture and understand that the Vikings don't care about the feelings of Britons and have no need to justify anything to britons or anybody. They do what they do cause they can.
Like with that game Ryse, the MC goes on about the vile britons and peace but he is part of an empire that invaded britain and occupy it. Hell, you could have a british Ryse who hates the Romans for what they did just like how Ryse hates the britons for what they did.
Can you explain in more details how the Vikings are portrayed?
We already played a Spartan....
It's kinda like history was pretty fucked in a lot of ways and people thousands of years ago don't match up to modern standards of heroism much of the time.

I think @Urabrask Revealed issue is that he thinks they are being portrayed as good guys instead of just protags. There is a difference.
That, and there're articles gushing about how "Destroy Christ! Burn the churches down!" are "exactly the kind of energy we need today!" Replace Christ with whatever religious mortal is the most important in your religion, and then tell me how much you like that claim.
