What web browser are y'all using? I found out about the Gab-backed one Dissenter recently and it seems to work just as well as Firefox or Chrome.
Dissenter is a fork of Brave, which in turn utilizes Chromium, an open-source project sponsored by Google Chrome.

I use Brave today and like it. Dissenter may be even better, since it has third party commenting built in. Both are vulnerable to Google choosing to sunset the chromium project, or spiking it with proprietary and compromising technology.

Unfortunately, the other first rate choice, Waterfox, is dependent on the Mozilla project, which is in turn (cue sad trombone) dependent on funding from Google. It has been speculated that Google keeps Mozilla around as a hedge against anti-trust action, such as that which Microsoft suffered.

Whatever happened to Opera? I mean it still exists but it really doesn't seem to have gone anywhere?

I use Brave and haven't had any real problems with it at all. Switched to it from Google Chrome which I had been using prior (And Mozilla Firefox before that).

Is there anything legitimately independent of Google or Microsoft? I always knew big tech was a pervasive monopoly, but its proven to be far worse than I thought.

Free of Google or Microsoft isn't that hard. Free of them, and Amazon, and Apple, and Facebook, and Twitter, and Paypal, and Stripe, and Cloudflare, and the rest of the openly declared left-tech companies? That gets mighty fuckin' hard. Of all of them, it's the google+apple or amazon+cloudflare combinations that are deadly. The former are a duopoly in the smartphone space, the latter are industry standard for dealing with DDoS attacks (which happen with startling regularity when one is not a customer of Cloudflare and gains prominence).

There are a ton of enthusiast solutions to various tech challenges, but they are almost never first rate competitors. My gaming rig is Linux (Manjaro with Steam+Proton and Lutris for running windows software). My smartphone is a Nexus 5 running UBports (Ubuntu Linux) and I will be upgrading to a PinePhone (Linux community-sponsored open architecture phone) to try out a wider variety of distros. Both of these have required time invested to make them functional, and while they are fit for purpose, they are by no means feature-equivalent.

Linux, I guess. If you build it yourself, it's yours.

Also, this particular comic is evergreen:

Still, I think a PinePhone is going to be my next phone. It's not made with Chinese slave-labor, is it?

It is made in China, so no promises. There's a made-in-America Librem option by Purism (Purism– Librem 5 USA), turns out the price of factories without suicide netting is around two grand. Not an apples-to-apples comparison though, the Librem USA is higher spec and comes with support and software; the PinePhone guarantees neither.

Dayum. That's a steep price, but if I weren't in an industry that can reduce a phone to scrap in a single season, I would be sorely tempted to pay it.

Opera is still around, and judging by the job postings they're getting money from somewhere. They no longer have their own rendering though, they use chromium like almost everyone else. The presentation of their website suggests that they are woke, though they are less overt about it than Mozilla.

Work phone and a Home phone I guess? I mean it depends on what you use your phone at work for but if its that intensive a job I figure you guys already use below 100 dollar phones while on site.

Though honestly just cutting the big ticket stuff is a good step.

There was no 'we' with numbers and consensus to do such a thing. Only now that conservatives are getting pimp-slapped right in the face are they willing to admit that maybe, just maybe, it wasn't such a good idea to do business with left-tech. Only now that the boot crushes their balls, to quote Yuri Bezmenov, do they start to get it. Until the last few days there was always another excuse... 'but I need this app', 'but google just works', 'but my favorite shows', etc.

it doesn't help that many on the right didn't find value in tech until the left really started using silicone valley to squeeze them, same goes with academia and theater. I'm limited by my own personal experience, but it seems like many a conservatives were perfectly resigned to being 9 to 5 laborer's until they realized too late just how disposable the labor class is. and now we are scrambling playing catch up because we've been engineered to be laborers since the age of four like good little meat slaves.

Razorfist talks about this a bit in his video about Cicero.

ADL is trying to shut down Gab, since Amazon can't do it on their own.

Its going to be a long four years, it didn't have to be if the GOP had gotten off their butts and done their job, but the pain will increase until the pain of inaction is worse then the pain of action.

Anyways... Back on Topic... Look whats happening to the app Minds as of Yesterday.

Google gave them 24 hours to bend the knee, which Minds sorta has done, in order to remain in their app store.

Unlike Parler though, apparently Minds also has a Plan B if and when Amazon Web Services deems Minds social credit score too low.

Anyways Google is memoryholing the whole thing. You won't be able to find their browser login via Google's search function and the only news story in their aggregator/search function mentioning this day old story is from Russia Today! (y)

I was just made aware of another Video Hosting Service generating buzz alongside BitChute and Rumble.

It has the extremely clever and original name of BrandNewTube. Haven't checked out much beyond the front page. It seems like it has a similar problem to BitChute or Rumble (moreso the former) in the overconcentration of political and social commentary content which is unfortunate but a seeming inevitable due to the overall context of the situation as to why people are migrating there. But seriously... why can't some of you Right Wingers just do more Role Plays slaughtering Communist Werewolves or something?

I find it hilarious and disgusting that the ADL is acting like a bunch of fascists. "There is no truth but our truth: no thought but our thoughts on what is deemed acceptable or not."
Why? It's in the name: Anti-Defamation League. They've never been the ACLU. Now, I don't agree with them at all (EDIT: On freedom of speech, I'm definitely on board with support of Israel and not hating Jews), but the rationale they have at least makes logical sense: Never Again, and to make sure it never happens again, call out people/organizations that have a lot of antisemitism on them, to try to stop the hate before it becomes something bad. Now I don't think this is a good way to combat hate, but other people can come to different conclusions. I don't like that the ADL does this, but I get why.

Because, from what I've seen recently, they've strayed from their original purpose/mission and joined in on the Leftist rhetoric that anything different = racist, sexist, kitchensinkist.

Gab isn't just used by far-right types -- it's used by people who are just sick of the shit Google, Facebook, Twitter, and other tech giants are pulling, and the ADL is ironically joining them by being fascist to... try to prevent their views of fascism?

Yeah.
