To be fair, this was after the slaves had been worked to death and forced to endure atrocity after atrocity for generations. Only around half survived for more than a few years after being brought over, and those who did enjoyed a life of suffering that would drive anyone to madness and despair. Honestly, after hearing about just some of the things the slaves had to deal with, I have zero sympathy for the French in Haiti. They brought it upon themselves.

Republic of Haiti has been cursed for decades with dictatorships. Let's not forget about the UGLY hostilities between Haiti & Dominican Republic, which escalated from the Parsley Massacre of 1937.
Dominican Republic isn't strong enough internally to swallow Haiti even if Haiti wanted it.
Haiti is in these struggles and only they'll be able to claw out of it. It requires a period of stable governance and manageable corruption. It's unlikely to happen but not an impossibility.
