Well, given the results we're seeing either it's somewhat useful but they don't have enough, or they do have enough but it's not that good. Either way, it's hardly proving decisive on the battlefield.
I mean, it hasn't helped stop attacks on Russian soil

The S-300 has proven itself a lot over the years, Its even shot down US planes a few times in different countries that had it.
Oh? I mean I heard about them shooting down coalition planes but not US.

The missiles are fine in their their flight parameters. But so are many others, The electronic guts, however, are what makes the difference beyond that, and that stuff tends to be very classified and hard to compare.
Like in many other areas, their training is lacking and large scale C3I stuff is in the 80's at best. I've read somewhere that they still have problems coordinating between own airforce and air defense, so usually they just have only one of the above operate in any given area at the same time.
