I once had to work with a contractor I described as an unpaid intern because we got out of her what you are legally allowed to get out of an unpaid intern: nothing. She also had the skills you'd expect out of one despite being labeled as a senior developer by temp agency.

I think you and I have very different work experiences. The intern who didn't expect a paycheque was 19. The first thing I asked him to do was find and bring me a specific roll of drawings and spec book from our archives.
That wasn't me being a lazy ass. That was me teaching him what to look for when hardcopies are all you've got.
