Funny how closely these things add up, around 400m out of total 1440m people under some level of quarantine, 25% carbon emission reduction, mostly in transport and industry energy use. Quarantined people use some energy, but on the other hand a lot of businesses that don't have their workers quarantined are unable to function anyway, because their suppliers, customers, or transport routes aren't working.

And that's exactly why China is shifting to a "damn the virus, the factories must resume work" policy.

The Chinese are certainly massaging the death toll to some extent, but there's also hundreds of thousands of asymptomatic infections, so, again, I believe fear is unwarranted, unless you're elderly with preexisting conditions.

I wonder if this is how the common cold originally passed to humans tens of thousands of years ago--consumption of new food species, coronavirus outbreak like this one, and then gradually becoming less lethal but more mildly symptomatic from an initial period of instability where it had both lethality and asymptomatic (and thus less effective at spreading) cases--converging on a stable solution of success, if you will. I believe we are seeing the same process here: We're essentially being hit with the first virgin field common cold virus in thousands of years.

I do believe it is important to keep in mind how evolution works, and how viruses are still subject to it, in these times.

Virii evolve quickly as they are. The most deadly strains, like Corona-chan, will burn themselves out quickly as she kills her hosts. Eventually, soon enough, she will transform into a variant of common cold, since killing the host is not really beneficial from an evolutionary standpoint.

We survived the black plague. In the end, Corona-chan, facing such formidable opponents like the modern medicine as an adversary, would never reach such heights of lethality in her wildest dreams.

Long story short, I do believe the longer the virus runs around, the weaker it gets. In the end, it will be nothing more than a minor historical anecdote, while humanity keeps trucking along.

I've read a screenshot from Reddit there's people who treat it like that official from Indonesia with faith as the counter.

Infected South Korean tourists ran around unchecked all over the place, and diagnosed only after they returned to Korea. Fortunately I didn't visit any of the places they did. Hope there won't be a serious outbreak as a result of this, but we'll know more in a couple of weeks, when the symptoms start to show.

Speaking seriously I am concerned at the infection rate. When it first started I was confident enough standard qurantine protocols will prevent it from spreading but it always comes down to human error and the need to keep the economy going.

Now we have South Korea and Japan fucking up their qurantine and China's mistake has spread the virus to Iran who are now spreading it to other middle eastern countries. Italy too is fucked.

The US has their questionable descisions too allowing that selfish bunch to lie about their health and the state department overall ignoring CDC recommendations that the Donald is angry.

Now I just don't know if some terrorist there will be creative enough to try a bio terrorism plot to spread the virus in Israel if they do understand it's infectious attributes with the whole world to see how infected areas are taking it. Very fucking scary.
