Tanks and other Armoured Vehicles Image thread.

Imagine a Bradley or a new IFV with this badboy on it....

Funnily enough, the same situation that led to the development of the BMP-3 led to the development of the COMVAT program, which used a 45mm gun using telescopic case ammunition instead of conventional case (which means that it can take up the space of a round of a far smaller caliber).

... yeah, 30% volume decrease and a vastly lighter round is pretty amazing. Also, Wargame Red Dragon players would know where this round is used...

Man, seeing all this just reminds me of Warzone 2100.

That COMVAT looks like something either The Project or The Collective would field.

Le French AMX-40, what would've been a WW2 era Cruiser Tank and thus not confused with the Cold War AMX-40 design.

Meant to replace the Somua S35 and S40 Tanks, it had some innovative design details including well sloped turret and hull armor, and the lack of right angles in its design meant the two man turret had an oval shape, like an egg.

French new tanks for 1940 - Char G.1 with 75mm gun would be even better. Here:

And,Renault even built prototype !

If they pour more money into it,and wanted 75mm gun from the beginning, they would mass produce it in 1940.

Remember that France had the only super heavy tk see combat.
And we're making a second model

France has slow tanks ?
Back during 1940, yeah. It was basically a trade of more armor vs speed and the infantry tank doctrine.
Yeah, basically every WW2 French tank was very slow, designed for WW1-esque battles. Why go 40km/h when your infantry is marching at a fraction of that?

Which kinda bit them in the ass when their commanders radioed in 'WE NEED TANKS HERE!' and the only choice was to watch their slow tanks trundle along and get flanked.

It should also be noted that France was severely depleted after WW1, so any innovation was stifled by all the requirements being based around that depletion.

Why all the 2-man tanks? France was bled white during WW1, so outside of specific tanks, you are limited to two crew members max.

Why all the WWI guns? Because the primary industrial centers of France were razed to the ground during WWI, what little was left couldn't be converted to newer designs because of retooling and R&D costs.

... you can see where I'm getting at here.
AM General Humvee Saber.

Proposed redesign of the Humvee by AM General, who made the original Humvee.

It's not a lousy redesign, to be honest.

Also, tax.

Reminds me of early Halo's UNSC vehicles (before Late Bungie and 343i fucked things up).

the primary industrial centers of France were razed to the ground during WWI,
Not true. The armaments industry was in the far west - like in Paris. In WWI France was the "Arsenal of Democracy", as evidenced by the American Army being equipped with French made weapons.
Also, in WWI there was no razing of industries. I admit that in the occupied territories Germans did dismantle factories and kept them crated, letting the the now unemployed workers barely scrap by.
