Alternate History Ideas and Discussion

He is scientist, not a man of direct action.
He can come back on time, use his knowledge of future events and technical accumen to make a truckload of money and hire professional assassins, literal and character, to at least postpone the war.

The general premise is very interesting.l, though.

Nikola Tesla making money? There is ASB and then there is unbelievable ASB. He was scientific genius but there were fields of life where he was hopeless at. He sends back a Apis, because Apis thinks he can change things, while Tesla has poor opinion of his own capabilities, while also needing to operate the machine, which is extremely complicated and he fears any mishap in the process might have extremely unfortunate consequence, therefore he can only trust himself with controls (this is not ''push this button'' kind of device) and thereby someone else must be in the chamber.

Then he should send his blood buddies Edison, Houdini and Lovecraft back, that would make for one hell of a rimeline. :sneaky:

You kidding? He and Edison hated each other. At least, in OTL. Who knows what cycle of the timeloop we're on.

Notice the smiley face. :D

And I do not think Tesla and HPL ever met, but I think Tesla knew Houdini who was friends with HPL.

In any case, sending a bunch of notable people back in time a few decades might be lots of fun.

Dragutin Dimitrijević - Apis was a time traveller/self insert.

In the original timeline there were several half baked plots to overthrow king Alexandar, but the one in 1912 required AH to militarily intervene and afterwards the Serbian king was but a AH puppet. After Franz Ferdinand took the throne in 1918 he started pushing for trialism, something that Hungarian nobility fought tooth and nail, resulting in full blown civil war that all European powers get involved in, resulting in continent wide conflagration, killing millions.

Nikola Tesla was horrified by this war and sought to undo the causes for it. He invented a time travel machine which sent a soul of a war veteran back into his younger self. But Apis was never a deep thinker, he blamed Aleksandar Obrenović and Franz Ferdinand for the war and loss of his family, so he manically believed that removing them would stop the war. He was horribly wrong, this Great War was worse than original and he didn't live to see even nastier sequel.

The only person aware that we live in Alternate Timeline was Nikola Tesla and the guilt of making everything worse gradually drove him insane. He tinkered with idea of trying to undo his mistake, but feared he would again make it worse, so he destroyed his machine and documentation. He informed several of his scientific friends of what he has done and basic principle, warning them that if ever someone goes down this route of research, they should stop him, for consequences of not doing that will be dire. Up to this day, the knowledge of this event is passed on only amongst chosen few, watching that no seeks to repeat this great mistake.
i remember polish sci-fi novel - forget title and author,as usual - where some terrorist use bacteria to kill 50% of Petersburg population, which lead to revolution,so some russian scientist send somebody back in time to stop it.

And he stop it,but becouse he only removed future soviet leader and his mad scientist, some noname Lenin become leader instead.....

In the end of novel, dude snde back in time, after surviving gulag,fo to grave of his scientist friend to ask if it was really good idea.

Sounds like every other episode of the original Outer Limits.

'AHC: George W. Bush Remembered As An Outstanding President'.

The Americans get good intel, by a stroke of luck, and manage to track down Bin Laden shortly after the invasion of Afghanistan. Bin Laden is killed on the spot, and the footage of the raid is released to the public. Bush looks like a capable leader who got the job done.

With the mission being accomplished, Bush announces that there US forces will stay to ensure free elections in Afghanistan within the year, and will then leave the country before the 2004 American election.

Unfortunately, not long thereafter, Bush is assassinated by an Islamic radical-- who has just previously put an incoherent manifesto online, in which he calls for "global jihad". The War on Terror spirals out from there (under President Cheney), and presumably sees all sorts of messes and fuck-ups. But by then, George W. Bush is a martyr. The man who caught Bin Laden and sought to "sensibly" withdraw from Afghanistan when the job was done. His hands are clean.

Brain transplant i.e. some sort of SI/Isekai?
Or he is visiting the Pentagon when that aircraft hits it and dies.

He would not be remembered as a bad president that way, and with Chaney taking over, well, people might make some comparisons and decide he was a great president.

I wonder what other points in our history look like backfiring time traveler interventionism? General Patton's car crash? It was an assassination. In the original timeline where he lived, he turned his popularity with the troops into the start of a political career, with unfortunate consequences involving operation unthinkable.
Cue OTL where we didn't have a nuclear war in the forties.

Cheney gets super aggressive & wipes out all of the radicals 24/7.

Sports WI: Tim Couch doesn't get drafted by Cleveland Browns

Aside from a great sports Alternate History TL called the Dawg Pound Dynasty, how would the history of the Browns be affected by NOT drafting Tim Couch?
