Despite the fact of his ailing health, it is with some shock that I have just learned that Pope Francis has passed away.

Although I have often found his choices surprising and even mystifying, I invite all Catholics -- and indeed all Christians -- to pray for his eternal soul; and for much wisdom to those who must now choose his successor.
