Turn 36 -
You Brought A Knife Out To A Gunfight
Sometimes fragments of information are the most frustrating.
Your forces never got a visual or sensor read on the pirate jumpship, just a very large jump signature from one of the pirate points in Griffin VII. Even that was only a partial signature as it was highly obscured and massively distorted by the background noise around the ice giant, according to
Sarah it could have been anything from a low of 400,000 tons to a high of 2 million tons, and the floor is only there due to the number of dropships observed making it nearly impossible for it to have been much smaller.
None of the enemy ASFs have been recoverable as they’d all been utterly shattered, however battle analysis shows that they were hitting at the range of an extended-range 8cm laser, not the ‘normal’ all 5cm laser configuration you’d been facing from the Dracs. Running the data past
Sarah makes it obvious that the
Sabres at least were likely Royal birds, with XL drives, double heat sinks, and improved lasers.
The Leopard-CVs were thoroughly wrecked, but at least
some of the damage was from self-destruct charges in obvious electronics bays. There are no surviving computers or prisoners, and the dropships are good only for scrapping.
You want to feel reassured that this was either just a pirate raid that got stupidly overconfident, or that this was a false flag attack from the Dracs that, well, got stupidly overconfident, but there’s something in the back of your mind saying it’s something more than that.
You do get some good news, however. Sarah is pregnant with twins!
Of course, your own twins still haven’t settled down, although they are racing quite well this year with the reversion to the older rules package.
Well, you can’t force them to settle down and get married, for all the hints and nudges you’ve given them that you’d like to see them do that. They evidently are bound and determined to live life day to day in the fast lane.
Bastet and Anubis are off hunting together, with Sekhmet looking properly smug after she evidently delivered the ‘tiger equivalent of the shovel-speech to the younger male.
There’s another bright spot, prospecting teams on Nowy Gdansk have discovered a large deposit of rare earth minerals that could potentially be a serious boost to the economy. It’s on a different continent than the main settlement, however, so exploiting the find could get expensive.

With the increase in economic activity, both with the Inner Asteroid Belt and Nowy Gdansk, Lee Aerospace has completed a second mega freighter to further boost bulk transport. This one is specifically optimized for ore transport and is even slower than the original, but is capable of shifting massive amounts of bulk ore.
They are, however, requesting subsidies to build bulk cargo handling stations around Nowy Gdansk, the Inner Asteroid Belt, Griffin II Orbitals, and Griffin’s Roost itself.
