I very strongly disagree. I'm Australian, not American, so we don't have the same ridiculous exaggeration of position that the American system is forced into by the false dichotomy of their two party system. I say this, because maybe I would feel different if I viewed every local election as the last stand for the nation's soul like a lot of Americans on both sides seem to. I personally think even with that system the whole "Must win, do or die." attitude I see is silly, and that regardless of which party is in power you'll generally see four more years of basically the same thing.Let’s be honest everybody, nobody on either side of the aisle really cares about allegations of sexual harassment, rape, or any other nonsense like that unless a political opponent is accused of it. And, also to be honest, we really shouldn’t care. Who becomes president of the USA can determine the fate of billions of people around the world, can mean the difference between war or peace, between prosperity and poverty, between freedom and oppression. If you support the policies of a candidate, if you think his presidency would be better for the nation and the world, then it’s completely irrational to care whether or not he groped some girls. Also, when it comes to not only someone rich and famous, but a politician who is opposed by powerful forces and organizations, they can find as many women to accuse him of impropriety as need be.
Regardless, I would vote for a decent man who honestly held different political opinions any day, over an odious person who aligned perfectly with my position. The government represents the country, to itself and to the world. What your saying sounds alot like "The ends justify the means." and that will always be a disgusting principle. I'd rather die tomorrow as a decent man with my head held high, than live forever ashamed of myself. I hold my country and others to that same standard too. If I personally had to choose between success for my country by embracing awful attitudes or to see it fail with integrity and honour, it's no hard choice at all.
For the people who've asked "What's wrong with Trump anyway?" Well, you could ask his friends. Except, he doesn't have any. Everyone he's ever been close to personally either turns on him in the end, or gets thrown under the bus from Epstein to Scaramucci. He has "allies" and "associates" not friends, because to a sociopathic narcissist like Trump other people are just stepping stones. They say you can judge a man by his foes as much as his friends, and there's a reason those categories can be summed up as "Just about anyone who ever knew him." and "Pretty much no one."
Or, if we want to look at the more sensational issues that haven't already been gone over there's his cynical manipulation of religion, his disgusting attitude towards the military, and his desire to screw his own daughter.
Trump is not a religious man. He does not attend church service, he does not consider himself answerable to a higher power, or concern himself with scripture. I'm personally a slightly agnostic Christian, with my own issues about the (many, various) churches as institutions of men, and even the bible as a product of man. That said, I've never used violent force to clear a protest so I could pose for cameras with a bible. Or we could just look at the seven deadly sins; pride ("With the exception of the late, great Abraham Lincoln, I can be more presidential than any president that's ever held this office.") greed (I don't do it for the money. I've got enough, much more than I'll ever need.), lust (You know, I'm automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. When you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything... Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything."), envy ("US President Donald Trump has said he was only 'kidding' when he told Fox News he wished Americans would 'sit up at attention' when he speaks, like North Koreans do with Kim Jong-un.") gluttony ("According to Conley, Trump weighs 244 pounds. At 6 feet, three inches tall that puts him over the threshold for obesity set by the U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute"), wrath (“You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart, right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now.”) and sloth ("Since taking office on Jan. 20, 2017, Mr. Trump has reportedly been on the grounds of his golf courses or played golf elsewhere 302 times since becoming President." - DJT: "We pay for Obama's travel so he can fundraise millions so Democrats can run on lies. Then we pay for his golf.") He literally hits up every major sin. He revels in most of them.
Then there's his relationship to the military, which is just as disgusting, and entirely in line with a third world little tinpot dictator. He attended a military school. He should have learned the basics of integrity and service, but by all accounts all he learned was how to use his families money to get women to party. When the time came that his service was called upon, that same money was used to find unscrupulous private doctors who'd shield him from the needs of his country. That's sad enough, but that he then used his public platform to call people who did fight and suffer and die for their country losers, because they weren't "smart" enough to avoid responsibility? That man, who denigrated the parents of a child lost in overseas conflict, who belittled every service member with his comment that “I like people who weren't captured” then wants to waste many millions of tax payer dollars to hold ridiculous Russian style military parades in his own honour? He's pathetic, and unworthy even to salute the flag of the country he purportedly serves.
And finally, there's "that" comment. "I've said if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her." And that's just the tip of that iceberg. Here's an entire article; All Donald Trump's creepiest comments about his daughter Ivanka
I'll share a few choice quotes for those too lazy to read ideas they disagree with though.
Stern: “By the way, your daughter…”
Trump: “ - she’s beautiful"
Stern: “Can I say this? A piece of ass.”
Trump: “Yeah.”
"Ivanka is a great, great beauty. Every guy in the country wants to go out with my daughter."
“My daughter, Ivanka. She’s 6 feet tall, she’s got the best body."
“After I met Ivanka and praised her to her father, he said, ‘Yeah, she's really something, and what a beauty, that one. If I weren't happily married and, ya know, her father . . .’”
But all of those aside, to anyone reading this who like me, has a daughter; would you ever tell her that you'd be happy to date her if you weren't related? If not, if you saw one of your parents on international television making those kinds of remarks about you, would you think it was even slightly appropriate? I can tell you right now, if my mother ever implied she'd considered the possibility of dating me, I would be aghast.
Finally, there's all the people who say "Yes, he is awful, but he's the only one who stands for what I want!" and I think you all should consider what that means. If the only person who'll fight for what you believe in is someone who all but pisses on the sanctity of the church, who makes a mockery of traditional values and family life with his multiple divorces and perverted interest in his daughter, who treats the armed forces he leads like a little boy playing with toy soldiers... Well, maybe what you want isn't something worth fighting for. I know that most people won't even read this far, and even if they do they probably won't change their mind. But I do hope that at the very least you might see that opposition to Trump can be based on different opinions and beliefs, rather than some ridiculous conspiracy theory that believes in your own "truths" but is more interested in defeating the common people for unscrupulous reasons. That's just tinfoil hat lunacy.
