Culture Everything Is Worse In China

Some people on this forum have something of an admiration for Red China, seeing it as less blighted by the social pathologies of the present time period or even as a potential alternative or preferable option to Western society. Those people are mistaken.

Are you worried about political correctness gone awry, weaponized by mediocrities to defame the worthy, suffocating truth, holding honest inquiry hostage through fear and terror? That problem is worse in China.

Do you lament the loss of beauty in public life? Its loss as a cherished ideal of not just art and oratory but in the building of homes, chapels, bridges, and buildings? Its disappearance in the comings-and-goings of everyday life? That problem is worse in China.

Do you detest a rich, secluded, and self-satisfied cultural elite that despises, distrusts, and derides the uneducated and unwashed masses not lucky enough to live in one of their chosen urban hubs? That problem is worse in China.

Are you sickened by crass materialism? Wealth chased, gained, and wasted for nothing more than vain display? Are you oppressed by the sight of children denied the joys of childhood, guided from one carefully structured resume-builder to the next by parents eternally hovering over their shoulders? Do you dread a hulking, bureaucratized leviathan, unaccountable to the people it serves, and so captured by special interests that even political leaders cannot control it? Are you worried by a despotic national government that plays king-maker in the economic sphere and crushes all opposition to its social programs into the dust? Do you fear a culture actively hostile to the free exercise of religion? Hostility that not only permeates through every layer of society, but is backed by the awesome power of the state?

These too are all worse in China.

Only on one item from Esolen’s catalogue of decline can American society plausibly be described as more self-destructive than China’s. China has not hopped headlong down the rabbit’s hole of gender-bending. The Chinese have thus far proved impervious to this nonsense. But it would not be meet to conclude from this that Chinese society’s treatment of sex is healthier than the West’s. In far too many ways the opposite is true. Urban Chinese society is just as sex-obsessed as America’s, and in many realms (say, advertising) far less shameless about it. Prostitution is ubiquitous. For men over 30, visiting prostitutes is socially acceptable. In many situations these visits are not just acceptable, but expected. Many a boss believes he can’t trust his underlings until they have spent some time sinning together. No one blinks an eye at professional mistresses; a wealthy Chinese man is expected to keep up one of these “Little 3rds” and carouse about with karaoke bar hostesses and banquet call-girls. The worst of that culture has (thankfully) been cut down by Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption drive, but there is no evidence that government campaigns have had any effect on pornography abuse. As the standard joke goes whenever some Chinese millennial wants to mock government weakness: “They’ve been at the anti-porn campaign for ten years now, but none of you have had any problem getting your hands dirty!”

Still really don't get this obsession with being anti-porn.

It's often a psychological addiction, replacing contact with a real person. It's easy gratifacation, without meaning. It makes it harder to be satisfied with a person, and to connect to them.

All of which ignores the other side, where women today are often very hard to deal with, and blame men for..... Existing, at times.

Basicaly, Lot's of Porn is bad, especially for youngsters, who tend to develop away from reality because of it. (Amongst other factors.)

Kids aren't supposed to consume it anyway, so that's an issue with parenting and society being a little too open about it. Otherwise it's pretty harmless. And in spite of old stereotypes, I know plenty of women who also watch it, as well as some couples who watch it together. But I won't go into it anymore since that would be off topic, and frankly pretty pointless since that conversation has already been had at least a couple of times in the politics forum.

I think you vastly underestimate how much of an epidemic porn is among children.

Most kid's first time watching porn these days is before 10, and a heavy porn addiction usually sets in by 12.

Universal smart phones and internet have pretty much guaranteed that.

And in spite of old stereotypes, I know plenty of women who also watch it,

Its normal for a girl to start watching porn in her tweens these days.

Just drop it; porn is one of those topics where any hope for a reasonable discussion regarding it has been thoroughly exhausted. We're not going to convince you guys that porn isn't as bad as you insist it is, and you're not going to convince us that it's a scourge of humanity that must be purged; let it go.

We have a whole thread to talk about porn.

As for this thread.
This is interesting, I thought China was the place so much better then the US that being taken over by them is so much better!

Yes, well; the regressive left like that China has embraced materialism, political correctness, ugliness, elitism, authoritarianism, hatred, and censorship. So in their minds, China is better than us, because they're worse than us.

I'm not talking about regressive left. People on here have claimed the US being invaded and conqured by China is better then the US now.

Is this actually a thing? Maybe I just haven't been around the Sietch (or any other online community that allows free-talk over politics) long enough, but I've only ever seen out-and-out tankies express any admiration for Red China. At worst I've seen especially grumpy online right-wingers say stuff along the lines of 'at least they're honest about being oppressive', but I don't think the US (even with all its myriad social-justice problems) is getting near the point where that's become a fair comparison just yet.

Now the true North, weak and unfree as it is (and continues to become), on the other hand...

Yeah, we're way further down the slope than you guys, with way fewer chances of climbing back up, and are firmly in the late stages of becoming the poster boy for the real-life accuracy of this conversation from a 20-year-old videogame.

Three hours of gaming a week teenagers! This will be verified because we'll force the game publishers to utilize your Real ID and facial recognition software to enforce this mandate if you play these online games in China.

I thought seeing it that way was a Wokeist thing. They're the ones trying to force us into China's sphere of influence.
I mean, there's stuff like this, but I don't know if it's being posted by CCP glowies or trolls and if the second option, if any of the trolls would actually put their money where their mouths were and move or if the CCP would want them.

By who, disgruntled ex-video-game-players? I'm not seeing the logic, these are people who are (were?) invested in entertainment media consumption and playing with pictures of dolls on a screen. These are some of the least threatening people on the planet. They achieve little relative to their peers, have inferior social connections, and have no experience overcoming hardship.

I would not want measures like this in the U.S. but they don't seem so strange from a Chinese perspective. Order >>>> wealth > harmony > other stuff, and personal liberty is at the bottom. Video games have been one of the vectors of pussification of Western males and the CCP apparently doesn't want that. Probably so they can throw their young men into a meat grinder of miserable overwork and possibly human wave attacks.

They will be replaced by the Outer Party, who will become the new inner party...

Haven't you read your Oligarchical Collectivism?
