Because of course we knew this would happen.

Joker is continuing to stir controversy on its opening weekend, after some fans stormed out of theaters around the world saying the movie was too disturbing and 'triggering'.

The R-rated supervillain flick smashed October opening-day box office records after taking home $39.9 million in domestic ticket sales on Friday, and is on pace to take in an eye-watering $92 million weekend total.

But not everyone is embracing the dark, ultra-violent film, which sees Joaquin Phoenix portray Arthur Fleck, the embattled clown who later transforms into Batman's most iconic nemesis.

On fan wrote on Twitter: 'Literally just walked out of a screening of Joker. Way too terrifying to be there with all this going on the way the movie glamorizes gun violence and mental health issues.'

Others have gone as far as calling for the movie to be banned from theaters, saying that it promotes violence and could even inspire a mass shooting.

I used to freak out at gore when I was a kid but this wouldn't terrify me now if I watched it.

I saw some execution videos before and they don't make me puke.

The first time in years that I actually had to wait in line to buy a ticket at our local movie theatre. The movie sure doesn't glamorize anything, I reckon people who were offended by it, went to the theatre with intention to be offended, so they can get their weekly quota of victimhood. Not to mention how the media hyped the movie as mass murder bait.

Highly skeptical that any big business can be that narrow in profiling people without potentially incurring cereal consequences. Sure it's not a Photoshop replacing 'backpacks' with 'single males?'

Perfectly good film, it's not even remotely as violent as expected. Importantly it was all in context and it has consequences.

It is a film which tells a truth and that is why some people won't like it. Joker is a psychotic murderer revelling in his notoriety and the chaos he creates, but he's also a well thought out believable human being who doesn't start that way. He is a product of a shitty life and a shitty society and pretty much everything he says makes a good point.
What he does is horrific, why he does it however is far more murky.

Good film, best performance in years.

That's all well and good, I just wish it was a powerful gay woman of color that was the focus of the story... And she was driven to desperation by a White traditionalist patriarchy that institutionally oppressed her and people like her. This isn't to say White males haven't suffered or anything, just as a group they aren't as under threat like minority groups so movies like this are at best horribly distorting the truly profound social upheavals that affect society and at worst empower and radicalized White males who while they may face struggles in their lives, have never experienced the trauma of generational oppression or benefited from institutionalized White privilege which even in the case of this characters journey, should've been reflected in this film.

What?

No I havent seen the movie yet. I wouldn't until its safe to do so. But why would I even want to support a film that reinforces oppressed White male syndrome and fuel a gateway to even more hateful ideologies. Plus that doesn't have any bearing on the validity of my critique because...

My only regret is that I only have one like to give.

Interesting thing is some of these signs have been confirmed to have been put up by the employee's without authorisation and they get torn down the moment they get called out on it, granted this may be cover-up or such but I found it to be rather brow-raising that employees were actively fearmongering that they might get a shooter.
