First Encounter of the Woke Kind.

For me, Gamergate. I'd been till that point left-wing and though my politics has shifted to the right a bit, just about every political test I've taken has me usually dead centre or centre right at most. This jolted me out of my complacency. People I'd thought could be trusted stabbed me in the back. I was abruptly a sexist, racist troll when I'd naturally never exhibited any such behaviour.

Gamergate was a spectacular critical fumble that knocked sense into an entire fandom that's still struggling to put down and fight against wokescolds.

Reading into the "popular" consensus of GG, you'd think that gamers as a whole are a bunch of irredeemable incels or genetic dead ends and sure there will be a few like there are a few in any community or group of people but the vitriol we got targetted with was and still is shocking to me. You had grifters sitting in front of the UN crying about being oppressed as they were raking in money in support. You had someone create a blog post detailing probably the first proper MeToo allegation, before MeToo was actually a thing and because the victim was male (and he was a male feminist who checked all the ally boxes), he was unfairly tarred. You had another grifter (I won't be naming any of them but if you're even remotely familiar with the situation you'll be able to guess their names) who collected tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to make a video series which she didn't do, stole footage from Youtube videos and blatantly lied about everything.

What made all of this all the more hilarious were the woke, game journos (who are reviled by the majority of gamers) is that they were completely guilty of everything they blamed GG for. Anyone who's a member of SB and been around for a while will probably remember a certain... modem for being a reprehensible piece of shit who... Well, I'm sure you get the idea.

Anywho, enough from me, what was your earliest contact with the woke? What suddenly woke you up to reality that these people were absolutely nuts?

I agree, it was gamergate for me as well. It just floored me how people just outright lied over gamers who wanted industry ethics and backed awful human beings either out of political or personal interest. And, of course they also tarred the people who just wanted fair treatment of the victim of she who is not to be named. So yeah, everything you said also applies to me.

I'd of course had already been drifting rightwards and developing intellectually due to already being exposed to this insanity and actually be exposed to people who taught me to think critically and freely. Though, GG was only the thing that fully opened my eyes. Going to university and actually seeing the insanity there, and on the net at the time is what made me aware of the woke. So, I wonder if it is not so much of an awakening as it is a sudden jolt that finally rouses me to full consciousness.

I was there with GG, but I don't have a specific moment before, but I remember thinking about some call for more women directors over companies in the UK as basically "Sure is a nice business you have there, would be a shame if someone started protesting how many women you have as directors." like some form of shakedown kind of like I used to see with Operation Push and Jessie Jackson in the late 80's early 90's in Chicago, because he'd go away if you donated enough money it seemed and then nothing really changed. I don't see much about criticism of their methods or outcomes, but that's how this kind of thing goes.

It's always the high-end nice jobs they (be that gender or racial) want more of, never the other lower jobs in that industry where if they had been would reflect in higher level representation. They never want to be the lumberjacks, always the Director of Operations.

For me, I honestly dont remeber my first encounter. It was in highschool I remember that, but I don't remember exactly when. It varied greatly depending on teacher. Some were a lot..more outspoken then others, and some played into the wokeness.
It didn't help that we had transtrenders and that kinda showed me the aspect that the world may go to, without knowing it.

For me, it was in school, and getting a woke math teacher. You might not think math could be woke but she was dedicated to making sure that the math grades were... socialized, so all projects were group projects, and everybody who was hardworking or liked math got assigned a pile of deadweight they had to deal with to make things fairer. I wound up with three girls who had zero interest in anything but gossiping their way through the class and made it clear they were holding my grade hostage if I didn't do the entire lesson for them every time because they didn't care.

Probably where I got my malevolent hatred of harems, especially ones where the females are freeloaders, from.

I was always right leaning, it was just my natural inclinations, but I used to kind of tolerate woke, thinking it did some good for people even though I gritted my teeth at it’s killing of meritocracy, I was very much a live and let live kind of guy.
What made me an the woke into irreconcilable enemies was without a doubt me too, or Balance ton porc as it’s called here.
I’d already been getting more and more suspicious of the entire thing before, but seeing so many lives flushed down the drain (some even killed themselves) without even an investigation or a chance to defend themselves really boggled my mind.

I didn’t take note of GG until some time later tbh, never really read games journo stuff or participated in the gaming community beyond playing games.

I was never interested in the GG clusterfuck, and purposefully avoided it.

I've always been more right leaning than my family on a lot of key issues (illegal immigration and 2A issues particularly), but when Clinton started trying to run in 2016, the media and social reaction to her campaign and how it compared with Trump's really opened my eyes. It helps that at around the same time I found someone who could articulate my issues with Woke culture and the Dems better than I ever could, and he helped my pull my blinders off on other issues.

I also ended up in a Master's of Environmental Management program for a bit, and saw deep inside the way Wokeness has hijacked the environmental movement and how woke language and narratives are replacing scientific terms and knowledge in much of liberal academia.

Sounds about right Bacle, as they saying goes— if Muhammed doesn't come to the mountain, the mountain will come to Muhammed. And the mountain did come. I don't blame you Bacle, but this just shows us that we can't just ignore the issues or sit idle and honestly this applies to me as well, I am sitting far too idle.

I think the first time I seriously looked around was about 20 years ago, when my Economics teacher was a communist. Outright, classic, "For the Workers!" communist. Still, I was busy with life, and I thought there were plenty of sensible people dealing with political silliness.

It was about 10 years ago, I'd just turned 35, I was wondering just how stupid our Gov had to be, to have made the decisions they had, so I tried to get into politics. I'm Australian, so I looked into major parties, and started looking at media about what was happening. That was- Bad. Unless you have family ties, you can't even join the major parties. As in, they won't even send you a form for membership. Australian politics is vastly more of a shitshow than most of the world knows.

As for Woke, It wasn't until I saw some of the details about Trans suicide, and how even bringing it up could get you fired, did I realise just how far we've fallen.

I think the big thing that helped me notice there was never a switch in parties, and that the left had gotten worse was college. My gov professor was a life long democrat, straight up said the party was not the same one. Well that and that the KKK were supporters of the Dems

Yup.

My dad was an economics teacher, himself, before he was driven out by manuvers within the teaching establishment. Dad didn't quite realise what was building in the background, but was refused promotion for spurious reasons so many times, he left and started his own busness.

That was, oh, 45 years ago? Dad's busness is still running. It's also proof how far back a lot of this shit goes. It also goes to show that Dad's economic teachings were right. It was that background that helped me identify the commie.

Ah shit.
I got chucked into a similar situation once, 2 girls who didn't give a fuck.

And as the only Asian in the group I ended up doing all the work.

But math class with that kind of shit. . .

That's another level of hell on it's own.

Scarred for life.
Not that I blame you in the least.

Guess I'm lucky that my university economics teacher was pretty normal and chill.

Nepotistic circlejerking.
Happens in politics everywhere.
Guess Australia is just worse than other places.

Democracy is long dead.
Maybe we should go back to absolute monarchy or something like that.
Because at least shit gets done when you have a king/queen.

Militant wing of the Democrat party.
Fact: David Duke (KKK supreme leader) was a Democrat for the longest time.

Yup.

What kind of a business does your father run?

I was one of the few people who was there from the begening when GG first started. I had just graduated high school and started my first year of college. Seems like an entire era ago.

Are wood prices really that high right now? Or is something funny going on?

Up at least a bit, but it varies.

Heh. About 6 months back, there was such a shortage of Pine that people were buying a similar local timber (Hoop pine) at double the price, because that's what was avalable. There are also timbers that are completely off the market, just not for sale.

The Corona shutdown has really fucked all the pooches.
