...Why? Is there some significance I'm missing for their acting like furry cosplayers? Why are they howling at the Moon?
Your guess is good as mine and I date three Turks in my life. Probably is it their "national" type of cringe.

You could make a joke how wolves are bloodthirsty pack anymals and any Turk who likes those as symbolic animal is just as violent as the wild canines.

That OR they are MHP party members or fellow travellers.

The Turkish peoples are said to be descended from one of the 10 sons(Ashina, the mythic founder of the Ashina Clan, rulers of the first Turkish empire ever, the Gökturks) of a boy who survived a raid on his village, and the she-wolf who nursed him to health.

Which is, as an addendum, is likely as me being a descendant of a Roman citizen just because I live in Italy.
Turkey is such as wild place for palingetic theories such as this : that all people descend from Turks.
But you know, this is the same country that needs a website to tell the internet and the world that a certain "event" didn't happen, tells their country is the best from another country and classifies Armenian protestors in LA as terrorists.

That's like saying I'm Celtic (well, more likely Germanic, Norman, or Nordic) because I'm English. :p

On the same line of thought, I use to joke my third Turkish ex and now special friend, that Turkish people are just "Greek Muslims". We had a bit of a fight where we both were laughing.
But trust me I used to be waaaaaaaaaaay heavier with jokes before I met her. In fact all of my friends pointed out how my "crimes against humanity-level" jokes almost immediatly stopped once we were a year together.

Well, yes. Look at how little Tuvans, Yakuts and Evenki(all Turkic peoples, and ones who weren't subsumed into larger communities, like the Turks, Azeris and Tatars) look like Turks. But there is cultural and linguistic(sort of, Modern Turkish is a very different animal than Ottoman Turkish) continuity.

Eh...for the first three I never met anyone in real life unless you count seeing that instagram comic Yakut lady who parodies ex-Soviet countries stereotypes. Even said continuity is likely spotty at best , you could make the case for Azerbaijan they say "one people two countries" with Turkey, but this with heavy Aliev's (father and son) propaganda, because I have yet to see or hear a Turkish person claiming the Azeris are Turkish or Turkic even, in fact I met more Turkish of both genders claiming that Azerbaijanis are not remotely Turk-ic / Turkish despite SOME evidence such as languages and genetics and even that is VERY BAREBONES :

If someone here could explain the context to me, that'd be great. 🤨

It's pretty obviously during Ramadan, where they are supposed to fast from sun rise to sun set. The dude cheated but is phrasing it in a way to where it was "god's will" and it trying to get third party approval from a religious leader so that he can offload the guild he feels for having cheated on the fast.

Thanks.

Actually, didn't you say you used to live in the Middle East for work? Not that they can be too "vocal", but I get the sense you've seen more than a few locals quietly cheat on their usual fasting, despite playing pious in public.

Yeah, surprised you remembered that. It's kind of funny because the 'fast' isn't even that bad. It's literally only during the day, and you are expected to have a big feast at the end of the day, every day. I've known guys who did intermittent fasting who went longer without food. You are also supposed to be on your best behavior, no breaking the rules for alcohol, hookers, etc. As you can imagine those also don't always last too long. Funnily enough, these kinds of lapsed Muslims are often a pre-cursor for extremists, if they become ashamed enough to become devout they tend to overcorrect in order to atone for their perceived wrong doings.
