Liam Neeson will potentially be starring in a reboot of the Leslie Nielsen The Naked Gun parody police procedural movie.
On the one hand I'm horrified at what modern Hollywood will do to some of the greatest dumb-comedy to come out of Hollywood.
On the other hand, I do appreciate (if it happens) the seeming-goal of leaning-in to the dumb-comedy by meta gag-casting of Liam Neeson in the role of Leslie Nielsen since I
think it's intentionally trying to cause/make confusion with the Liam-Leslie Neeson-Nielsen business (yes, the first one isn't close but I at least have confused the two before and I think it's kind of a thing?).
On the third hand and kind of dovetailing with the first...Tired of reboots and eyeroll tired at scriptwriters trying/having to slide their shit into existing or prior franchises just so a presumed captured-market can already exist for the film...But since that continues to work and I'm just as guilty of feeding it as anyone else, I have no real space to criticize. It just...feels a bit more grand when it's a relatively niche franchise that banked on
comedy as opposed to action set-pieces or 'big-name' characters?
