Why were most of the ones following Augustus so....bad

Most of them were average to good, but then you great ones like Marcus Aurelius, Trajan, Hadrian and later Aurelian.

Edit- Caracalla was both great and evil at the same time.

Dude did a lot of good for Empire and established birthright citizenship across the empire.

On the other hand? He annihilated eastern Europeans for the lulz and was big on death squads and tortures and the like.

They just make a cursory notice of one side being the "Nationalists" and one side being the "Republicans" and think there is some clear good guy/bad guy to this conflict which just shows how little they know.

And how little they want to know. The sort of people we're talking about tend to have a striking degree of incuriosity about pretty much everything.
