Not about the scientific process, or scientific progress or integrity or any such thing, but The Science(tm) they care about greatly.
Their globalist masters like GDP a lot, it's a great way to pretend things are getting better when they're getting worse for most people but a lot better for a few. GDP can also be used as a replacement for discussing things like "quality of life" and "standards of living".
Everything they do from 'green energy' to added regulations harms GDP, so no, they don't. They care at most about just their profits, for the ones that aren't ideologues.
