Middle East News Thread

Apparently Egypt and Ethiopia suspended talks on the Nile dam flashpoint.
Doesn't surprise me. Ethiopia is going full out on building it(it's called "The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam"), and the Blue Nile, which is the branch of the river being dammed, provides about 65% of the water of the Nile River. For one side, it's vital for economic growth(6,450 MW electrical generation capacity), for the other, it's a matter of life and death.

Be General Sisi

TFW you have two potential wars to fight. And your economy is only held via remittances and tourism.

Egypt's future is grim. 100 million people squeezed around the Nile, with no resources to speak of, hostages to the Aswan Dam, and now to this Ethiopian Dam. If Saudi Arabia stops bankrolling their armed forces...

People in Lebanon are very unhappy with their political class. Which seems to have fucked up the country real good.

I expect these protests will fizzle.

A general thread for middle-eastern military centric news, since the MId-East is the Seat of Mars on Earth in the modern day.

How a memetic Middle-Easterner might react to the region being described as the "seat of" a pagan Roman god...

This is the second time in a few weeks I've heard of a rocket attack on that embassy.

Guess Iran is still looking for revenge for Solemani. They are apperentlh also trying to target the US Ambassador to South Africa, based on some tweets I saw a few days ago.

Maybe it's time to shove some JDAMs up the Ayetollah and IRGC's collective ass's.

Why South Africa bruh.
I'd guess proximity, and possibly perceived lack of security.

That's likely to have changed at this point.

If Iran is out for revenge for Solemani, they may be going after any US diplomatic personnel they feel are vunerable.

And Trump has weighed in publicly:

They better take the warning seriously. When he means it he means it. Soleimani thought he wouldn't dare and got a hellfire missile.
