Yeah, I see no way how this could get more complicated or exceed the original budget estimates by several times. If I remember right the first decision was to build a tripartite diesel-electric submarine as Australian public was against nuclear submarines (also the reason why Scorpene was picked initially), but then it was changed to nuclear ones.

To your point perhaps, France is also interested in joining the program now. Keep in mind they were in the latter stages of providing Australia its new submarines, which would've been diesel-electric versions of their Barracuda-class nuclear submarines and known as the Attack-class.
So France would likely also get submarines similar to the ones planned on being developed for Britain and Australia and thus the program will be renamed... AND PROMISE NOT TO LAUGH!
