Here in South Africa, people who can afford it are installing solar panels, batteries, inverters, etc not because it' greener, or more efficient... but because the national power grid is simply no longer reliable.
Eskom's big coal-fired plants keep breaking down, and the money to fix them keeps just... disappearing.

How about generators? I know fuel could be an issue, but there's a reason why most hospitals have them, at least in Australia.

That's standard in the US. As is N+1 on the boilers, chillers, and associated pumps. The boilers are also dual-fuel: natural gas and oil (just in case).

During an emergency or outage a "green solution" takes a back seat to a reliable solution.
