RIP Former US Secretary of State & former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell 😔

From what I hear, he was not bad in the military sphere of things. It was mainly when he was SECSTATE that he grew disliked.

Iraq has still always done better for us then A-stan

He never "grew disliked" as far as I can tell - the media was generally pretty positive on him and he fit into the "but not like those Republicans" slot for the media during Bush, more or less. Was part of starting the war on Iraq but got to be the first in line to "express doubts" before the other neocons so got better PR because of it. And I doubt the public knew who he was when he was secretary of state, let alone before that, except when the media was reporting on it.

Also, you were going on about how everyone was giving Milley a bad rap and he was actually just brownnosing for progressivism so he could get the military ready for some peer conflict with china (which a bunch of people on this site like the idea of, presumably because they were dropped on their heads as children), up until he was phoning them, so I'm going to go ahead and say your judgement about military brass is shit.

Only when kept on a tight leash.

Once off the leash you get bullshit like WWII Japan where the IJN and IJA basically did whatever they wanted and weren't answerable to the government. Sometimes subordinates went off the rails and not even those at the top knew what was going on.

Fr'ex: Tojo wasn't even informed that the IJN lost four aircraft carriers at Midway until seven months after they were sunk.
Or they get bored and decide to become the government.

Like what's happened and is currently happening in Africa.

Haters gonna hate but he's got a starship named after him courtesy of the Terran Confederacy Confederation. 😛

Them Drayman-class Troopships like the TCS Powell, named in tribute over thirty years ago on a ship that exists five centuries into the future.

Didn't he have some type of disease that screwed up his immune system? So it wouldn't have mattered if he got the vaccine or not?

He had Multiple Myeloma, a form of blood cancer.

That cancer does very unpleasant things which compromise someone's immune system and it's only a matter of time before something most people can shrug of with a few days of sniffles is fatal.

The problem wasn't Colin Powell being a SecState, it was a military member being SecState. They see a problem, they see military as the solution. It's a bad idea.

He was actually seen as the more diplomatic member of the upper brass and combined with the idea that he was constantly brought up as a potential first Black President of the United States to the point he was actually lampooned in Mars Attacks and contrasted with the "Stormin" Norman Schwarzkopf metaphor.

Look, he could have been Secretary of a lot of departments, but even a diplomatic member of the military quite frankly isn't someone I want in control of the State Department.

He was actually represented by the lying press as the more diplomatic member of the upper brass and combined with the idea that he was constantly pushed by the establishment GOP as a potential first Black President of the United States.

This is how this needs to be interpreted.
