Vader's breathing apparatus was also, I think, basically a snorkel. But if you have Darth Vader appearing on screen just wearing a literal snorkel, that's just dumb...

Here's an interesting point of observation: while Luke is obviously wearing some of Han's spare clothes during the ANH award ceremony, take a close look at his pistol holster. He's *not* carrying a heavy blaster pistol like Han's, although he will have one in Empire Strikes Back; he's actually got Leia's long-barrel sporting pistol.
