Taiwan Straights Tension

Arch Dornan

Oh, lovely. They've sent me a mo-ron.
Except everyone in the Pacific Rim sans long term U.S. allies Japan and South Korea affirmed the One China Policy after Pelosi's visit. Yes, every single member of ASEAN-including Vietnam-gave statements in support of One China and called for restraint from both sides. Weird they would do that if they all hate China and this pushed them against Beijing. As I've said, you lot are extremely detached from any sort of objective reality as it relates to these things.

Vietnam continues to follow a "One-China policy" and calls on all parties to not escalate tension in the Taiwan Strait, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.
"Vietnam wishes for all relevant parties to restrain themselves, not escalate tension in the Taiwan Strait, positively contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability, and strengthen cooperation and development in the region and the world," Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang said Wednesday.
She said Vietnam resolutely follows the "One-China policy," which recognizes Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan as part of China. Her statement came as the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is visiting Taiwan, the highest-ranking U.S. official to do so in 25 years.
The visit escalated tension between the U.S. and China, with Beijing considering the act as provocative and Washington's betrayal of its "One-China policy."
They don't want a war near them when they already have Myanmar escalating domestic tensions.

Yeah, that exactly what I'm expecting from them to do but they still made a big deal out of it. It makes me wonder if there is some internal problems they suffering that they need some posturing to distract the population.
I can answer that.

Covid quarantines failing, the youth feeling fucked by lack of economic opportunities, banks restricting money being taken out and the property grift ballooning. Lots of factors.

Xi is having some issues. It's one reason he's been cracking down so hard on opposition.
Is someone gunning for his seat in the Party?

That sounds bad, what prompted that? Also, the real estate bubble haven't pop yet?

I think their worst mistake was making a big fuss about Pelosi's visit. They could've just ignored it and waited it out.

No need to, this visit made the U.S. look bad regionally and gave Beijing all the ammo it needed to start this blockade. China's playbook on this increasingly looks like textbook 5th Generational Warfare; without-as of yet-firing a shot they're using these exercises to introduce an effective blockade of the island that threatens to destroy Taiwan's economy. The negative look the U.S. got out of the visit gave China the political cover to do this, and if Taiwan responds with force they would have to be the ones firing the first shot.

In effect, China is going for the economic strangulation route. No need to attempt a risky invasion when you can gradually breakdown Taiwan until it surrenders on its own.

They've been busy with the economic front. More sanction here and there.

It's something people need to pay attention to, I agree. 70% of Taiwan's GDP is based on exports, and 40% of those exports go to China. If the PRC completely cuts them off, we're talking Great Depression levels of GDP loss for Taiwan.

Again, you guys are ignoring the difference between ORBAT and actual combat strength.
No one's ignoring anything except you. You've been asked for numbers and proof over and over and you keep insisting that by asking we're somehow ignoring actual combat strength. Show your numbers for actual combat strength, tell us how many of those missiles Iran had, and verify that info. We just want you to present actual proof of your claim that they were a "Light-Infantry Militia."

Bank fraud.
Ouch, that is fucking. This reminds to diversify where I put my savings. Never trust on only one bank.

Real estate is already on a downward spiral last I heard.
I'm starting to suspect most of those project are just money laundering schemes.

Is Taiwan self sufficient when comes to food?
