Taiwan Torpedos Deal

The French are usually quite willing to pay the bribes and they are usually also quite willing to do tech transfer.

How is the Vietnamese navy as well, China has hardly been on great terms with them over the years. Recall some years back they got into a scuffle with them (mostly on land though) and they got soundly beaten. Granted that wasn't long after the Vietnam war and the Vietnamese forces had a fair amount of combat experience, but still.

According to Wikipedia Vietnam has...

6 Kilo Class DE Submarines (80's era)
4 Gepard Class Frigates (1st launched 2007)
3 Petya Class Frigates for ASW (60's era)
2 Petya Class Frigates as Gunboats (60's era)
8 Molniya Class Corvettes (90's era)
6 Tarantul Class Corvettes (70's era)
2 Pohang Class Corvettes for ASW (80's tech, transferred from South Korea)
9 Missile Boats
17 Patrol/Gun Boats
8 Minesweepers

The last real War the PRC actually fought in was 70 years ago in Korea. Every other major power has fought more recent wars. I would say they don't have any combat experienced troops on par with well anyone.

Quality? What about Quantity? Many fighting aged men WITHOUT wives or children or even possible wives around

It's not like it was easy to support the numbers of Chinese forces they had already sent into the Korean Peninsula, especially during the Winter. The ones already sent were already on a fair bit of a shoestring of a logistical trail.

Well, back to using “soft power” then before it all ends

The Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979 was pretty real(killed up to around 100,000 people, depending on the estimates you believe), and made the PLA realize a lot of things were wrong with them. Whether the experience of that war is applicable today is a matter of debate.

They fought the Japanese during WWII and that didn't translate into any real combat tactics that would make sense. So I would not hold my breath. And yes I know it was not officially the PRC but it was Mao's forces in that battle along with regular Chinese resistance forces.

And at least Taiwan chose thre proper ally to learn combat from...unlike PRC

It would be nice to see the US and Russia screw over the CCP together.

Russia and China alike are well aware that the actual winner of any war between them is called USA*, and as such I rather doubt any of them will be willing to commit national suicide and in doing so ensure / preserve global US hegemony for the next decades / century.
Though the US would be no doubt thrilled to see such conflict happen, much for same reasons.

* just like the US was the ultimate winner of both WW1 and WW2, by virtue of geopolitical opponents / competitors kindly killing each other off so that the US could easily fill the resulting geopolitical void on the cheap. Same principle applies here.
