Fortunately, that's basically fake news (and was reported wrongly by a lot of people). They still will support Nazi's. There is some slight controversy over whether they will support marches with guns, but that's basically it. The ACLU statement post-Charlottesville:

These are just some examples mind you. The ACLU is firmly on the side of the regressive left. Perhaps not entirely, but enough so that if it came down to deciding between principles and partisan politics, I would not bet on them picking the former.

The ACLU is over left, of course, but will still defend the right to speak for opposite people, as shown by what they actually litigate. So I don't care what their opinions are, just that they stick to their principles, which they have consistently done. I think you are way to skeptical here. Look at their actions in a legal sense. They defend bad people all the time.
