I would definitely take that as a direct threat to the lives of my children were I her and respond as such.

You must always remember that the modern democrat has two parents, the Confederacy and Marxism. Confederates have always hated Catholics, in no small part because they blame the teeming hordes of "non white" Irish orc-people for winning the war for the union, and in some degree because many of the Confederates were or were the descendants of polygamists bitterly pushed to the margin as it were, which the condemnation of the church had a role in.
The Marxists hate the Catholics because of Saint John Paul, who spent his entire ministry riling up the church worldwide in opposition to the soviets.

They would have men join the church as priests, work their way up, and appoint men as priests who, unaware of the greater conspiracy, had some level of pliability towards leftist ideology.
