Star Wars The Mandalorian

In my opinion, Rogue One and The Mandalorian are the very best Star Wars content since A New Hope.

I really love how they've achieved a modern action movie style while preserving the overall look and feel of the Star Wars universe, and I love the plotlines that show the lives and efforts of people who aren't "important" in the eyes of the universe.

I'm conversely not a fan of Karen Traviss' anti-Jedi wank and Fandalorian BS, but I do not like the way the sequel trilogy doubled down on "the Jedi are all-important and everyone else's efforts are meaningless window dressing".
Even as a fan of her Mandos, she was a little...to overboard on the Anti-jedi stuff. I like the more down to earth stuff. This is why I honestly liked Solo. Sure it was based on a MAIN character of the series, but it was still more down to earth

The newest episode is damn good!
Bo Katan shows up! The actress looks identical to the Clone wars one just aged a little of course. She has the same head band and everything. She and her group take off their helmets unlike our buddy Mando. Turns out Mando is from a group known as the Watch, perhaps Death watch?*shrug* No idea, but he is hesitant of th em at first and questions Bo about her armor when she and her group remove their helmets. She says it has been in her family for three generations.
He then trusts them greatly and Bo tells him where to find ashoka.

Also the girl from the trailers on the docks is one of Bos mandos.

ALSO! BO IS AFTER THE DARK SABER! SO SHE CAN CLAIM THE TITLE OF MANDALORE!
I think I know how the season ends. Either Bo is in trouble and Mando Ashoka and Baby Yoda head out to save her, or mando ends up defeating Moff and becomes Mandalore only to give it to Bo.

Bo-Katan is played by Kalee Sackhoff, the exact same actress who voiced her in Clone Wars and who her Clone Wars CGI model was directly based on.

We already knew he was a Death Watch foundling from the details seen in the Season 1 flashbacks, although now it's explicitly confirmed.

Ashley Eckstein definitely wanted to do it, but she has very little experience as a live action actress, having done almost exclusively voice work only since 2008.

I still think that is a stupid reason! She looks just like Ashoka when she did cosplay for it at one point in the past! I a, sad Ashley does not get to do it.

Lack of acting experience is a very, very valid reason not to cast someone in a major role on a major series.

I am positive she would have been fine, as she has everything she needs for the position except experience. I doubt she would do bad.

Yeah Katee Sackhoff looked great as Bo Katan. And the other Mandalorians looked great as well. The episode was so fast paced and filled with action and things going on I was actually surprised at how short it suddenly seemed. The planet Trask (not named after the creator of the Sentinels from X-Men apparently) was neat enough and Quarren are a bunch of assholes as expected. Like was anyone not expecting the Quarrens to be jerks in this episode? Those of us in the know didn't... Also honestly, those Quarrens seeking vengeance probably could've been solo'd by Mando himself anyways. Low intelligence move.

The Imperials were suitably hapless as well, as to be expected. It reinforces making me wonder how many legions of hired stormtroopers they needed to take out that covert on Navarro... like c'mon? But I dug that whole episode and the interactions with the Imperials on the Bridge. Though when the Moff came up I once again had to think "Who works for this guy again? He's a terrible employer!"

Some of my favorite moments of course were with Baby Yoda and especially his interactions with the baby frog and the brief glimpses we got of him hanging with the Frog family while Mando was away slaughtering Imperials. Hopefully he's learning the value of unfertilized and fertilized egg life, the little green barbarian. Also what an appetite! And also Baby Yoda playing with his food, both with the chowder in the inn and as they took off in their refurbished ship. Love the new design of the Razorcrest though... all of the plywood and ropes and fishnets everywhere.

Also neat seeing the Walker style salvage tow thing that fished his ship out of the water. Those Mon Calamari might be shitty mechanics, but at least their search and rescue operations are quick response... and apparently free of charge.

The Trask docking authorities should probably restrict having Imperials on their planet though... between the ignorance of docking and takeoff protocols and almost ramming the planet surface and so forth. Very poor guests. Hope they pay top dollar for all of that smuggling.

Oh Katee did an AMAZING job as Bo, and I definitely could feel the character form the series being portrayed there. She did an amazing job, and her facial expressions remenined me of the Clone wars version for sure!. Though she has less menacing eyes in real life then in the CGI series, and I find her a lore better looking in person.

This episode was directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, who IIRC did some episodes in season 1. She did an amazing job as director, and she definitely has the talent of her father when it comes to directing movies. People give her acting in Jurrasic world crap, but she does a good job behind the camera in Star Wars.

The Mon cala are always the good guys, and the Quarians are always the bad guys. This is obvious! Though I do love how the Mon cala was satisfied by his work on the ship, and Mando was like..."I gave you 1000 credits." All in all great episode, so far it is my favorite with episode 1 being my second.

Apparently, one of the puppeteers running that Mon Cal was Janina Gavankar, the voice and motion capture actress for Iden Versio.

the latest episode had me geeking out admittedly and I have to say I'm glad they are going to try and address the elephant in the room with the no helmets thing. Something tells me the Mandos have been in a state of civil war long before the pacifist came into power. My bet is you had two different people claiming to be this supposed Mandalore the Great at some point.

and I know people call it pandering, but I like the references to stuff that came before.

Again I will say Bryce Dallas Howard is a good director, and Favreu is a great writer
