The new episode definitely moves us far towards the season climax, with some lovely moments for those of us who are technically inclined Star Wars geeks.
1. Dark Troopers seen in action, and explicitly referred to as Dark Troopers. The heads look much more like Phase 2 as opposed to the Phase 1 like design seen just one episode prior; it's possible that they're modular in some way, with a helmet fitting over the inner droid head.
2. I don't think anyone thought otherwise given how blatantly it was telegraphed, but yep, the bald dude with the gnarly acid burns is indeed Boba Fett. He's got Slave One back, and now he's got his signature armor back too. And he's terrifyingly kick-ass with or without it.
2a. Oh, and explicit retroactive confirmation that, yes, that was Boba Fett whose feet we saw last season.
3. It looks like Din's previous interaction with Bo-Katan and the Nite Owls has softened his attitude about true Mandalorians a little bit; while he initially takes a hard line, he ultimately doesn't contest Boba Fett taking back his armor even though he doesn't follow the Creed or cover his head.
4. Hard confirmation that the old EU canon "fifteen minute setup" for E-Webs is bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. They got that thing online in seconds.
5. We see a new model of Imperial infantry dropship, which appears to be visually based on both the TIE Reaper seen in Rogue One and the later First Order dropships from the sequel trilogy. It's a completely sensible addition to canon; the Reaper was clearly an atmospheric-oriented model like the TIE Strikers that accompanied it, whereas this is a "regular" space-to-surface dropship.
6. A pretty solid refutation of "turbolasers are puny", with a single well-placed medium turbolaser shot from Moff Gideon's Arquitens class light cruiser reducing Din's poor Razor Crest into a small crater and assorted scrap. Given that we've seen how extremely durable the Razor Crest was to physical impacts and thermal heating, this proves turbolasers very, very deadly indeed, and also strongly confirms that for midsize ships, most of their defense against heavy weapons fire is in their shields. As opposed to the tissue-paper shields that snubfighters have.
7. Moff Gideon is really blatant on the wannabe Vaderness.
