The original publisher of Civilization, Colonization, Mechwarrior, X-Com and a literal plethora of flight sim games went defunct back in the early 2000's.

But now apparently it has returned.

Or rather someone decided to purchase up a bunch of old Microprose IP including its name and logo, gain the blessing of Microprose's founder (who wasn't Sid Meier who left the company to found Firaxis) and is now planning on publishing three games next year, with twenty or so more planned and mostly developed by external studios. They all appear to be military strategy and simulation games.

Read the fairly elaborate story on Microprose's return here...

Looking at those upcoming, carrier command seems like the least interesting of the bunch (though mostly because I played Carrier Command Gaia Mission, and it wasn't all that great. The game bills itself as a game of cat and mouse between you and an enemy carrier, I found it was more like a scoooby do chase scene). The mil-sim ones look alright, but nothing jumps out at me as atypical for the genre.

Urban Strife looks interesting. Well, actually based on the ad it looks like Day of Suvival Z Dawn or some other crap mobile game, but if the ads of those games were actually representive of the gameplay. So maybe.

Head over heels in love :)
Many memories of Microprose games. I had early on games like Gunship and F-19 Stealth Fighter that came in huge boxes built like bricks, complete with multiple manuals, one of which was a game manual, one a 'theatre' manual, keyboard overlays, maps, and god knows what else.

Another one I spent many many hours on was Pirates and its upgraded successor Pirates Gold. I never could take to Sid Meiers Pirates the same way though, partially because of some silly minigames like the dancing one.

Microprose games.

I can't read that name without hearing the Civilization II title music. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what they do with those old titles.

Civilization II. Man, I loved that game. It was simple yet fun.

I received mine in a bundle with Command and Conquer: Tiberian Dawn '95 back in the early 90's from a boot sale. :D I loved compendium packs like that, back then (I also bought one a few years later that had Diablo 1, Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War, and Warcraft II and its expansion for like £10.00). :D

I remember owning Gunship for my Spectrum, later on Gunship 2000, F117 Stealth Fighter, Pirates, Pirates Gold, Civilisation and a few of the sequels, Colonisation, Dogfight, 1942 Pacific Air War and a slew of others.

The School of Necromancy is still going strong at Microprose!

They just re-released the 1992 version of the 1942 B-17 Bomber Simulator.

Looks like a pretty solid HD Remaster. Seems as if they're taking advice from Rockstar Games.
