Business & Finance Unions Have Become Anti-Worker

It's clear to me that the unions of today are nothing like what they were initially intended to be. Which is depressing, considering how often I've defended them over the years. The concept is sound, as a unified group is harder for a corporation to abuse than individual employees; but it has become so corrupted, that doing away with them entirely seems like it wouldn't make the situation any worse for the average worker. This is unacceptable.

Wait, people only realized this now?

Unions only exist as machines to enrich a few top members, while spending most of their 'mandatory dues' on political contributions to candidates that kill jobs.

I'd trust straight gangsters more than union bosses these days; at least gangsters won't use your protection money to help the Swamp keep fucking over workers.

To add to what has been posted above me, unions do serve another purpose in some cases. Keep employees from getting fired, which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact this includes the shittiest of employees. The teachers union in a few states at least is a great example of this. Unless the teacher for example pulls out a crack pipe in class, hits a student, ect. They are not getting let go. (And in a few cases a crack pipe in class may not actually get them fired) Doesn't really matter how badly they do there job, it doesn't matter if the average grade in the school is a B and in there class its a D-, because they just don't teach it clearly or very well, and never try to do better. You basically can't get ride of them.*

*This is only in regards to public schools as I understand it, I have heard private schools some how avoid this problem.

Pretty sure I've heard of teachers who sexually abuse students ending up in a room by themselves doing nothing and still getting paid their regular wage for it because of unions in some cities (like NYC). Meanwhile, in other states, teachers get fired because they look too sexy in a bathing suit in pictures they posted of their vacation on social media.

That's actually kind of funny, because gangsters have long been tied at the hip to unions, and use them to run racketeering and other traditional organized crime operations.

Unions, as a concept, make sense, but the big issue that you run into is that for some reason our society recognizes that a single organization controlling the supply of, say, steel is bad, we don't extend that recognition to Labor.

You see, the issue with Unions isn't Unions, if Unions were restricted to being strictly for a single company's employee's they likely wouldn't be nearly so corrupt or bad (nor anywhere near as large), but we've allowed certain unions to become monopolistic of labor in specific industries. Take the UAW for instance, they control the labor markets for automotive workers throughout the country save in states with right to work laws. This scale makes it so that they do not have to truly be concerned with the health of the individual companies, if one car manufacturer goes out of business, the UAW doesn't care (even though individual workers do), as it just means abit less money coming in for them. Thus, when those automakers run into issues, the UAW doesn't really have any reason to negotiate with them, in fact, driving them to death actually serves their interests more since they can hold up a company dying as a point in their favor, so they screw over part of their membership just to leverage more power for others.

And that private sector unions. Public sector unions are even more parasitic and, I'd argue, outright evil...

Recent story I encountered regarding an Embezzlement case.

AutoBlog said:
Timothy Edmunds, 54, pleaded guilty Friday to one count each of embezzling union funds and money laundering during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Detroit, federal prosecutors said. He is the 17th defendant convicted in an ongoing criminal investigation into corruption within the UAW, prosecutors said.

From 2011 to 2021, Edmunds was secretary-treasurer of UAW Local 412, which represents about 2,600 people who work for Stellantis, formerly known as Fiat Chrysler, at factories in the Detroit area.

Edmunds “systematically drained” the local’s bank accounts of about $2.2 million by using the labor group’s credit cards for personal purchases, cashing local checks and transferring money into his accounts, according to the criminal case, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Prosecutors said he gambled with the money and spent more on guns, cars and child-support payments.

Seemed like a classy chap... also... the SEVENTEENTH defendant convicted in an ongoing case about corruption in the Union of Auto Workers? I was actually unaware there were sixteen prior convictions to be honest until I stumbled upon this article on Social Media.

I am not surprised. UAW only cares about senior members, and I remember them retaliating against people trying to leave the union.

Note, this is in Australia, too.

The first woman Prime Minister of Australia is linked to a union corruption scandle, although never apparently part of it.

That's not talking the various pedo's and scum who are protected, while good teachers often aren't.

And the Construction Union down in VIC, well, they're so unpopular with their own membership over the COVID crap where the Union backed the Gov over the members, not only were senior officals attacked by their members, for a while there, the members were picketing worksites, and only letting in non-union people.
