I understand your point of view and I too am sympathetic to the plight of our honorable Guardsmen and women but I feel I just remain faithful to the Lore. But make no mistake, I do this not because I have contempt for the Imperial Guard, but out of loving sympathy for them.

If each squad gets their own Chimera, it will breed laziness, indolence and ultimately weaken them both in body and spirit, allowing the threat of Corruption to breed within their souls.

The only righteous and considerate course of action is to have their Heavy Weapon Squads drag those Heavy Bolters and Lascannons into position by hand and foot!

And I'll probably just make an Armored Infantry Regiment as well. Mission creep will delay the deployment of this Versus Thread by a decade or two no doubt.
Now, what planet are these guard from?

2000+ Personnel, 75 Vehicles, 18 Artillery in 133 Squads.

The idea is a baseline (lol as if that's a thing) Imperial Guard infantry regiment. Originally I gave each squad vehicles but upon learning about the footness of them all, removed the Chimera's and just added a handful to the regimental armored cavalry troop attached to the regimental headquarters.

The main purpose of this regiment I reckon is to advance behind armored breakthrough forces to secure territory or otherwise be deployed to secure and defend territory. They have some offensive capabilities but it's mostly in their Assault Engineer squads. I also wanted to give them some capability of scouting, with the armored cavalry troop and the sniper squads as I see their purpose is more recon and patrol then assassination. I added a field ordnance battery because Imperial Guard love artillery. And some motor bikes so the regimental command squad officers can act like a command staff and can zoom around and control everything. Vox-casters given to each of them and each Sergeant in the Veteran Assault Engineering Squads which I see as being distributed about if not being used in a specialized assault/breaching role.

I read about how each Imperial Guard Regiment tends to specialize into a particular role. Infantry is infantry. Tanks have lots of tanks etc. So regiments have to work together since they all specialize in different things which is fine. This is an infantry division so its mostly Guardsmen with lasguns. But there's a little bit of extra offensive power still in various forms.Enginseers

Here is, though outdated, a good breakdown of regiments.
Though, for something breakthrough you want more mechanized, and, according to Lexicanum, they are a type of regiment thay can exist.
And generally anything larger then a regiment would have multiple regiments to make a combined arms.

For instance, in the Cain Novelsz they are a mechanized regiment even though they are a infantry one due to the nature of the regiment.
Vehicles are used as transport and as fire support.

Then you have the Sabbat world series where regiments are all from doffrent worlds with diffrent fields and a general often leads multiple together as a group.

You can also look at an older 40k comic about some hell hounds of a regiment, and how they operate with other regiments.

So keep that ij mind

Yeah I saw that in the older Codex. I prefer using the squad format instead of platoon. And ignoring the company sized battalion and going with the battalion. Plus I wanted to stick to the idea of one Commissar and other special types per regiment. I know there's Junior Commissars and such as well, but this isn't a Cadian regiment. It's an even more anonymous one.

Plus I see the Regiments as being more real world brigade sized then regiment (thousand troops) size anyhow, especially with how they fight.

I appreciate it though.

Anyways you'd be happy, mine still has vehicles. :p

They are basically brigades in 40k, so there is that.

I am just trying to help make a point about having to FEW vehicles.
They would be useless in taking initiative of a breech because they would not be able to move with enough speed.

Oh yeah... I'm scribbling up an Armored and Artillery Regiment as well, its easier now with the Infantry one out of the way. :p

Altoght, makes sense.
I am just adding my two scents

Yeah I appreciate it. Almost finished with the Armored one but I wanted to add Enginseers and other tech-adepts to it since it makes more sense.

I'll be doing a fanon artillery regiment next and then maybe my quest for OOB's to use in Versus matches will be complete.

I thought about going all tank but that seemed a bit much even if it is an Imperial Guard thing to go whole hog so to speak, so I did a variation of the US Armored Brigade and tried with a two-thirds tanks, one third infantry type of deal. So there's six tank companies with eighteen main battle tank platoons, and twelve infantry tank platoons. The latter are armed with Demolisher Cannons which are shorter ranged and meant for infantry and lighter armored things but still possess a lascannon for coring armored vehicles. The tank command platoon is almost a port over of a US Armor Tank Command Platoon with a main battle tank, command vehicle, support vehicle and recovery vehicle.

Then there's three armored infantry companies in Chimeras PLUS the Engineering Company has its own tank platoon of special Leman Russ Tanks with engineering modifications, and two "assault" engineer platoons instead of squads in their own special vehicles. The Special Weapons company meanwhile provides a smattering of air defense, long range artillery support and its own recon elements including scout-sharpshooters and more motorbikes.

Then there's the headquarters company which has the Baneblade, a command squad and its own "motor pool" which includes some Samaritan Medical APC's which I added because I cut out many medics in this regiment and replaced them with Enginseers. The Headquarters has more support vehicles, and more recon elements. I thought of making the Baneblade its own company but having it as a command vehicle did make it seem more epic. It also has a pair of Leman Russ Battletanks which I kinda see as backup vehicles. I don't really see the Imperial Guard as having in-regiment vehicle reserves to be honest so this is probably more of an immediate short term replacement type of thing so there's only two of them.

The addition recon made sense to me sense this is an offensive force. So tanks drive forward crushing enemies while the armored infantry, engineering troops and support troops blast and root out anything that inconveniently remains in existence.
My main concern is a lack of Atlas Recovery Vehicles but... it's not very 40K to concern about such things.

Apparently the Rogue Trader game has come out.

I'm super pumped to play it, but i'm going to give it some time for patches and what not. That's my usual go to with modern gaming. I play very little right away because they are never properly completed on launch.

Rogue Trader will probably be probably a late 2024 pickup for me.

61 Artillery Pieces (25 Self Propelled)

During World War Two the average artillery brigade had between 25-70 guns so I decided to angle towards the larger number naturally. Originally it was three times the artillery and it make me go hmmm so I redid my math and reduced it to a third of the original estimations. Since each of these guns only carries so much artillery with them and in the actual Basilisk or whatnot itself I figured there'd have to be dedicated transportation going on which means a lot of lifting, by servitors, powerlifting sentinels and transport capacity from Trojans, Centaurs and old fashioned Cargo trucks. Four platoons of Infantry provide security for the transportation and perhaps the guns as well. Also two platoons based on other entries Assault/Engineer troops are available as a Quick Reaction Force.

Along with trimming the artillery pieces, I also cut out about half of the Centaurs since the motor pool was getting to be almost identical to the armored tank regiment, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I wanted it to be lower. But I did toss in some fancy Goliath Cargo Trucks. With how formidable and well armored those vehicles are, there's no reason why only Genestealer Cults should be utilizing them. Also I wanted to fit Taurox APC's somewhere after seeing them constantly pop up in my wanderings so I did.

I briefly thought of adding Hydras for anti-air but decided against it. There are lots of autocannons (and I suppose Earthshakers can potentially be used in an anti-air role) about. Nothing properly anti-air mind you besides the Manticores but focusing it on one task is a thing the Imperial Guard does though.

In the very first Cain short story, we get a good breakdown of what an artillery regiment looks like
Hydra were common place

Yeah I read that too. Also the Codices I have said it's usually a battery of them attached to the headquarters so I might just add a battery to the headquarters company.

It makes sense because of what Hydra are designed to do
