Who else dreads this year?

Ah I love the smell of missile spam in the morning
Yet another October surprise.

Of course it could be a bunch of realistic mockups since ya know this wouldn't be the first or last time communists have fooled the common western populace with such. Still it might be a good idea to further our research into ballistic missile defense and order another couple hundred more interceptors of various types

I give, oh, a 5-25% chance it's capable of getting 100 miles past NK's borders without exploding. Even if it's real, we know they haven't tested it yet, and if they do try to test it at anything approaching intercontinental range, that could make things dicey for them.

I'd say the new ICBM is almost certainly a mock-up... but a mock-up of something that is in the pipeline. I expect this new missile (Hwasong-16?) to be tested in the following months.

There is nothing we can do to stop their missle testing..

Yes we can. It's called 'bombing the shit out of their military infrastructure.'

This, very obviously, is not a step that will be taken lightly or easily. But the reason that NK continues to exist has everything to do with political costs and diplomatic costs (exclusively with China) and nothing to do with their ability to actually stop the US from crushing them.

It is more like we do not want RoK nuked.

Which is why this issue should have been dealt with in the 90's, before China had the capacity to reasonably threaten the US for dealing with the issue once and for all.

Shoulda-woulda's though.
Except RoK does not war either. We will also never attack first. Only if nK attacked first

'Never' is a very strong word. There are a broad variety of reasons why the US might attack first, though none of them are within a short distance of where things are right now, at least to the best of my knowledge.

Premptive strike only.
Nothing nK has done has been a place for it to happen.
