My point is, intel ships are able to be written off. Attacks on thena re not war declarable, especially if it is by an ally. Did said ally attack us on purpose or was there a massive Miscommunication issue? It doesn't matter, because friendly fire happens.

Israel had proper anti ship weapons to use on the aircraft. Plain 500kg or 1000kg SAP or even GP bombs would do. But instead attacked it with friggin napalm and light rockets, shit that will not sink a decently sized ship, period.
But the aircraft were redirects from ground attack missions, you would think that for secret black op to rope USA into war against Egypt they would make sure to attack the ship properly and leave no witnesses.

Yes. Unguided torpedoes... It's why WW2 submarines generally didn't fire above 2-3km, and often preferred to get much closer than that, even though the torpedoes had much more maximum range. Sure, a spread fired against a convoy at such range could make sense, but against a single ship, waste of torpedoes.

In this case, the torpedoes were fired from bouncing speedboats going at full ahead at a ship's stern, rather than the wide side profile, further reducing chances to hit.

Being inaccurate at 6km would've been the least of their problems, no WW2 model of 450mm torpedo from Italy even had 6km range. Damn.
