Female Custodes have always been in Warhammer since the founding of the original ten thousand. 🤷‍♀️

People are so ignorant of the lore that they somehow didn't know that already.

Don't get too snarky with them though, and by snarky I mean mild disagreement, their community managers will block you on social media.

it's sad at one time I would have just gone "Huh...Neat." nowadays though it's hard to enjoy anything in the public sphere without wondering what the angle is. I HATE that. I miss the days of not having my claws out with every new, addition or retcon. I miss being able to enjoy or dislike something without having myself psychoanalyzed.

I'm not even a fan of 40K, I just could not get into it compared to Warhammer Fantasy and my experience with the 40K fandom is...not the best. I'm just sick of this culture war.

I like the media, couldn't get into the tabletop game at all. I actually like the lore of WH40K because its gritty and grounded (politically), the cosmopolitics of the universe make sense within the context of the setting: it's grimdark, interstellar dark ages much like Medieval Europe, but on a cosmic/galactic scale. It's pretty awesome imo. I also like how inhuman it is. Humanity's best and strongest soldiers the Space Marines are barely human themselves. The plot point of humanity having to become almost aliens themselves to do battle with even nastier aliens is downright badass

EDIT: And, being a 40k lore buff, I'll say this. Female Custodies were always a possibility in the lore. It had never been stated that they were all male (well, there was a throwaway line about the 10,000 being the "sons of Terra"), and their individual artisanal creation, as opposed to the mass manufacturing of Astartes, always left the door open on the idea that there could be female Custodies. It had just never been outright stated, and of course it would create problems with the idea that the Emperor didn't want a species of sub-par superhumans taking over the Imperium.

GW of course really fumbled the ball on this announcement, like terribly so, and its super clear this is just them bending over for the woke crowd constantly screaming for female space marines. I can see an alternate timeline where this change (or confirmation depending on your view) was done in a way that would have upset almost no one. A full novel release, with tie-in models, probably would have let this happen with little to no blowback.

But instead, GW released this info via a single post on one of the most contentious social media sites on the web, and then proceeded to block fans who didn't like it.

If your a fan of Warhammer 40k, gatekeep like your hobby depends on it, because it does.

Good thing we got all those old editions as PDFs and the ability to 3D print. I ended up selling most of my 40k stuff a bit over a year ago. hadn't touched it in years so I sold something on the order of 4000-5000 dollars worth to a rando coworker for 700 in cash. just wanted the stuff gone since I haven't touched it since my friend who I would play with died.
