What do people think of CETME sporters?
Maybe it's the flair of the exotic and uncommon, but they're very pretty-looking guns. Cool from a historical perspective, too. And anything with roller-delayed blowback has always piqued my curiosity just because...Well, exotic and uncommon again, and while I'm basically terrible with maintaining or operating machines myself, seeing pretty ones run good is fun.

Though that last part is where I understand there's issues since 'run good' is the one thing I've heard a very large number of the things don't do, requiring lots of fiddling and finnicking to actually make function because Century Arms Quality Control was/is a monkey with an approval stamp. :p

Finicky Spanish version of a finicky mid century German design built from demilled parts kits by Century Arms?

That’s a hard pass from me.

I almost wonder what it would take to make one run well. I do have some machining capabilities, but if I have to design a new blowback/recoil system that would be a bit much. Might as well design my own gun at that point.

You could literally start mass producing Tec-9s if you have the necessary machining capabilities.
Semi and full auto versions.

very handy little SMG/pistol when the New World Order, Zombies, or some other existential threat come knocking on your door.

It must be common for ATF twitter posts for replies to be shitting on them.

I am...utterly and completely baffled at what PR-intern running the ATFs Twitter-feed thought THAT was a good idea. It is nearly-inconceivable they are unaware of how often and loudly the agency is shit on using that format...
...
Unless Mr. PR-intern is aware, and underneath his glowy exterior beats true-blue 'Merican blood that ferociously desired the Agency be shit upon further. That...Actually almost seems like a legit possibility, considering. In which case, everybody pour one out for the reverse-undercover intern who just lost his job.

Though the commentary on Twitter at the ATF reminds me...

I mean, a lot of people gave fun with it.

You know, when I watch guys like Forgotten Arms doing take downs I'm always a little impressed by the mechanical savvy it takes not to screw anything up. Especially since these particular machines are mildly explosive and could do horrible things if you somehow reassembles them wrong, or lost a piece.

Waiting period for my first gun was over today. I'm one of the least mechanically inclined people I know, and they have really idiot proofed the field-strip. I could maybe come up with three or four ways to sabotage the process, but only intentionally, not by forgetting or mistaking anything. Kind of makes sense, I once saw a video of some army-brat little girl that was doing blindfolded takedowns and assemblies of an AR. If kids can do something, chances are it's simple, even if not easy. Not to mention all the militaries that have to contend with training the lowest common denominator.

They are able to train anyone to field strip an AR and Clean it.

if you somehow reassembles them wrong, or lost a piece.
This is why you always follow the usual rules of disassembly/assembly:
1. Make sure the area where you will deposit the parts (table, canvas...) is even and empty, so you don't misplace anything
2. Empty your weapon
3. Make sure your weapon is really empty (even if you have done d/a thing hundreds of times already) to ward off the magic asshole bullet fairies
4. Start disassembling the weapon and remember to put the removed parts to your side on the table/cloth in the order of removal, if it's your first time you can use your phone to document the process
5. Reassemble the weapon in reverse order of disassembly, if in doubt, consult the pictures on your phone
6. Weapon reassembled, no parts remaining on your table/cloth

Kind of want to get one, but will probably still be a while. Though honestly I would also love to have an FN-49.
