Fallout Fallout General Thread - War, War Never Changes. Nor do game engines.

So I watched an interview with Todd Howard that was released today and while most of it was pertaining to Skyrim Anniversary Edition it did have some stuff relevant to Fallout 5:

1) The next Fallout game is in fact planned for being made after Elder Scrolls VI.
2) Todd Howard seems extremely reluctant to let another studio make a Fallout sequel/game, so the odds of Obsidian making Fallout New Vegas 2 are unlikely.
3) Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI will be the biggest technological jump for Bethesda ever, so Fallout 5 will benefit from that.
4) Todd described Starfield's release date as (paraphrasing), 'Being written in pen in an age where most release dates are written in pencil,' and he considers 11 his "lucky number" so he's pretty attached to the 11/11/2022 release date. With at least 2 years between games, though, that means Fallout 5 can't really plausible come out before ~2026-2027 if its being made by Bethesda Game Studios, unless the studio is given significant money by Microsoft to expand and handle more games.

Basically, its probably going to be 10 years between Fallout 4 and Fallout 5.

Will they finally rid themselves of the heightmap terrain with its resource-devouring cave problem? Put each kind of process on a separate thread? Re-implement a Path of Last Resort where the player does everything in the main story themselves without a single word to an NPC? Have sidequest NPCs use the Protected flag so that we can actually expect to kill all witnesses instead of randomly having half the population with a name unkillable?

No, they did not drop a bunch of technical information.

Todd Howard simply said that in the passed the jump from Morrowind to Oblivion was the biggest technical jump Bethesda ever made, and now it was the jump to Skyrim.

Deathclaws are the Jack the Ripper in mutated animal form of Fallout. Regardless if frontline or behind enemy lines I don't want to be in their line of sight.

To beat them I needed max (100) in Small Guns or energy in Fallout 3 and NV.

I have some sincere doubts for 3 considering they already set a precedent with Fallout 4 engine of "yeah it's the same engine upgraded but we are gonna pretend it's a different one".

So who wants to see a crossover with DC Comics?

Superman: Superman would have the standard origin, only this time when he gets to Earth, it underwent nuclear warfare. Superman was raised by Ma and Pa Kent, farmers struggling to survive in the wasteland. Now Superman wanders the wasteland, helping civilians, building homes, stopping raiders, trying to bring hope in a world that desperately needs it.

Batman: Bruce Wayne was an heir to the Wayne Family until the bombs dropped. His parents were killed during the chaos of trying to get to the underground vaults and Bruce was taken there by Alfred. He would train himself in the vaults Doc Savage style and when it was deemed safe enough to leave he did so. Gotham would be a city struggling to rebuild as its plagued with corruption and raiders. Bruce would become Batman to protect the city and bring order to the wasteland. The more deformed or superpowered members of Batman's rogues gallery could be re-imagined as mutants transformed by the radiation like Killer Croc, Clayface, The Penguin, Two-Face, etc. There would be an interest on reforming villains like Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze since they can help with repairing the environment.

Wonder Woman: Wonder Woman could either arrived to the world before the bombs dropped or after the bombs dropped. The former would leave her filled with self doubt as she feels that she failed her mission. The latter would bring more humanitarian aid with her fellow amazons, building schools, hospitals, technology from Themyscria like the Purple Healing Ray. Ares would love the wasteland, not only did the nuclear war bring so much destruction, but humanity has reduced to the constant low levels of warfare of the pre-modern era. The Caesar's Legion from Fallout would definitely be major enemies, being the worst aspects of Rome without any of the redeeming aspects, slavery, misogyny, warmongering, etc. So imagine the plot of Mad Max Fury Road with Wonder Woman as Furiosa and Caesar's Legion as Immortan Joe and the Warboys

The Flash: The Flash would be a courier, using his super seed to transport supplies and messages between towns. An alternative to his standard powerset would be to make him a driver and use his speed force connection to power his makeshift cars. The Rogues would be outlaws who discover a cache of advanced tech to use for their schemes. While criminals, their strict conduct and standards make them a preferable option to more ruthless raiders.

Green Lantern: A team of lawmen composed of the Earth bound Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan, Kyle Raynor, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Jo Mullein. They would only have 1 power battery to share amongst themselves since only Abin Sur crashed here and left his ring and battery to pass on, with the rest of the Green Lanterns being deputized. They would patrol the wasteland, offering assistance fighting off raiders and rebuilding, Magnificent Seven style. Sinestro could appear and pull his peace through tyranny idea, with people joining out of desperation.

Aquaman: Aquaman would have a more fish man like appearance due to the radiation mutating him, he would experience prejudice from the surface world for his appearance. He's still the heir of Atlantis, which indirectly suffered from the nuclear war as radioactive waste has polluted the oceans and there are more mutated Atlanteans. The underwater kingdom is split amongst factions on what to do with the situation, whether to ignore the surface world to deal with their own problems, conquer the surface world as revenge, or help the surface rebuild.

Martian Manhunter: Several ideas with Martian Manhunter. One is Mars was destroyed and J'onn goes to Earth to find a new home only to find it underwent another apocalypse. Another idea is similar to the Silver Age version where Mars is fine but a scientist from Earth accidentally teleported J'onn to Earth. J'onn wouldn't be able to travel back to Mars since Earth was wrecked by nuclear war so he travels the land to act as a hero. Another option is that Mars is fine and J'onn went to Earth as part of a mission to bring humanitarian aid. J'onn could simply pass his natural Martian appearance as mutation from the radiation.

How true is this?

How true is this?

Not particularly. The difficulty of lonesome road is greatly oversold IMO, and while it's easy to create an unarmed build that's a total murder machine, this is fallout NV. It's easy to create a killing machine based around any weapon type. It's only a slight challenge to create a build that's an unstoppable killing machine with every weapon type and master of every skill.

In more detail, Lonesome Road enemies are pretty tough and hit pretty hard. But Fallout NV's armor system let's you soak a lot more damage than 3 or 4, and with how stimpacks worked pre fallout 4, it doesn't matter how strong the hit is so long as you survive, because the fact that stimpacks heal instantly (and even if you don't have a hot key for them, auto-inject stimpacks will do it for you) means you're nearly invincible. And you can use food and chems to increase your HP, damage resistance, and apply HP regeneration, in case you somehow manage to die despite that.

Fallout NV weapons also hit more than hard enough to handle the tougher enemies, and thanks to Dead Money, you will never run short of ammunition or weapon durability and can spam the most powerful weapons in the game, either via using the dead money vending machines to buy ammo or using it buy other goods you can then trade for ammo.

I'm currently playing fallout 4 with the Thuggysmurf mod packcage and I...want to like it? I've not done the project valkeriye questline so maybe I'm not getting the full picture. I love that sarah and the lyons Brotherhood of steel are in the game, I honestly think they should have been in the base game to begin with (Especially since it's hinted in the game files that Deacon is the canocial PC from fallout 3) but some of the choices the author's made for the mod just seem stupid. Some of the quest almost seem like they are trying to be a porn parody or at least a CollegeHumor of Fallout 4, the mod hates on the minuteman way too much and outright tries to remove them as a faction (No joke there are at least 2 ocassions where you discover that Preston was "Evil all along" and you have to confront him resulting in him getting arrested or killed completly breaking the minuteman questline) , and some of the pop culture references and 4th wall breaks are ungodly awful. it's a shame to because with the exception of a couple of NPCs (Mostly the kids) the Voice Acting could pass for professional acting (I literally mistook one of the Voice actors named Kinsmarck for Stephen Russell) and the mods really the only one of its kind that gives much needed expansion to the game.

That was my experience with that whole set of mods too. Great VAs, quest design, lots of new equipment that's really well made, combined with awful writing, narrative bias, and far too many contemporary pop culture references (references in and of themselves, fine. But there needs to be restraint), and then to cap it off the excessive and unavoidable hornyiness.
And the referances are only really for certain value of "contemporary". One of the early warning signs...I mean quests ended with a "Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are whores" joke. Which is both not funny and painfully dated.

for me it was Harley Quinn. the fallout series has a culture aesthetics that stretches from the 50s-late 70s/early 80s so some of the cultural references I could dig. the Fallon Slaves slave traders have a companion that's a jason vorhees character that mocks slasher movies and even does Jason's iconic "ki ki ki ma ma ma " moan. great love it. They have a Brotherhood of Steel character named Ash that's an homage to Army of Darkness Ash Williams. Little goofy but hey it's subtle enough, it still fits and I dig it. And then you are introduced to Harley Quinn. Not only is the character straight up called Harley Quinn, not only does she look and sound like the character, she mentions the Harley Quinn character BY NAME AS A COMIC. Despite the fact that the character wasn't made until the mid to late 90s, plus the in game character is based on the 2016 suicide squad film version of the character.

also what place does a...dildo have in a fallout game?
