Five minutes of hate news

Current generation nuclear power plants are incredibly safe and effective, if they're not built and maintained by cowboy builders and engineers.
And you expect to guarantee that the technology will NEVER be in the hands of underpaying bureaucrats and incompetent engineers? In this regard, nuclear power apologists are no better than any socialist.

On the one hand, safeguards and checks are frequently ignored by the people meant to enforce them, be they agencies, governments, or third-party companies.

On the other hand, nuclear power plants are pretty much the only thing that will satisfy the power-needs that are going to be demanded in the next ten, twenty years (that includes the power needed for desalination plants), unless you're a lucky ass country like Iceland that has geothermal through the wazzoo.

Wind turbines? Not cost effective, not power effective, and actually create a ton of pollutants during their initial production. The blades after their life-cycle are just dumped and cannot rot or be recycled.

Tidal? You have to make sure they're in strong currents, but are still easily accessible for maintenance, and also they're not in the way of shipping lanes. Examples like the Thames Barrier are pretty much the exception to the rule, as barriers like that can't be implemented anywhere. Dams? They could work, but then you run into the issues of where and "will it piss off my neighbor?" (e.g. Egypt, the Nile, the dam being built by a country downstream from the Nile which would affect Egypt's survival).

Even in big countries like the USA or China where you're not at risk of pissing off another country, you'd still limited to where you can build a dam as it would run into the same problems e.g. affecting the water-supply, environment, et cetera.

Coal and oil? Pollute the shit out of the environment.

Natural gas is cleaner, but on the whole it isn't enough to meet global energy demands alone.

So, yes: Modern nuclear reactors are pretty much the only way forward until we develop something more viable/more effective because everything else? Too limited, too damaging, or just too ineffective.

If I'm a socialist for not wanting to live in the dark and cold because "green power will save us!" or I'm averse to oil and coal on a mass scale fucking up the enviroment when there's a better, cleaner alternative? I guess I'm a socialist. :p

Nuclear, and deep geothermal, are the best, most dependable, least polluting energy sources on the planet. however neither are cheap.

Geothermal's biggest issue is that drilling and plumbing deep, superhigh heat pipes is a bitch at the best of times, and outside of places near active volcano's, it's not really super economical because they simply cannot boil the water to a high enough temp to make energy generation efficient.

Poor Corgi Pup found unconscious and laid out on a store floor and weren't even sure he was alive because fur was soaked with red streaks and matted with crimson viscera that was even splattered all across the floor... 😣

I don't know what it is with all of the fucked up animal stories I've been finding smh.

I can't help but notice they don't investigate why the consequences for harmless quips are so severe in the first place. Or why people become suicidal over it, even more so.

(Then again, the whole site reads as parodic satire. But given how much Woke crap there is, I have to assume that whoever stuck to it long enough to write that many articles genuinely believes it. Or at least, has a gullible audience that genuinely believes it.)

pretty sure this is satire.

That said historically speaking people do not handle this kind of repression long term at all. Humor is a safety release valve remove it and you have building up pressure that all explodes at once in an orgy of violence.

I don't suppose you have any historical examples of mass "humor removal" in action that'd be relevant to us?

I feel like this belongs in "funny animal stories" or something.

That happened despite the pressure valve though, censorship was easing again from the 70's on and there were many comedies with political criticism mixed in like Moj ata socialistični kulak (My father, socialist kulak) and Balkanski špijun, people had a lot to laugh at.

What tanked the Yugoslavia was unworkable political system, which was built around Tito and economic hardships, stemming from governmental control of economy.
