Well, wonder how many bad things will happen till the tomb is reburied, because no way did Genghis not have a shaman place a curse on his tomb in case someone ever found and opened it.

Actually would feel kind of appropriate, all things considered.

look around you the world was already fucked.

Interesting news, for sure, and given how he remains a national hero in Mongolia proper, I'm guessing it'll be especially big news there. I would, however, think that less "niche" outlets would also be reporting on this, and so far, I haven't found anything else corroborating it.

Wasn't Tamur the Lame's tomb opened the same day the Germans invaded Russia?

Three days before, actually, assuming Wiki is correct. Needless to say, that prophetic inscription on his casket forewarning that disruptors "will unleash an invader more terrible than I" was all too accurate, regardless of whether Timur himself had the power to make Hitler's invasion happen. :(

Let’s not tempt fate, shall we, please, especially in lieu of current events??

Seconded.

Of course, while anything's possible nowadays, I wouldn't bet on Genghis actually having supernatural powers that allow him to make good on curses, seeing as Hitler already set the board to prosecute Barbarossa long before the Soviets opened Timur's tomb (meaning a German invasion probably would've happened, anyway). Likewise, it was the same with us up until excavating Genghis's tomb, though I'm sure future historians will note it in similar terms, if World War III breaks out shortly thereafter.

When they unearthed Tamerlane world war Two started.

They do this and China is threatening to start world war three.

I'm not a superstitious man, but the dead deserve respect and a man that evil. With a will that twisted ought to be left to lie.

Edit- Also the Mongols believed in hedging their bets when it came to God. He would have had Shamans, witches, crazies, animists, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims put their mark on that place. Promising the wrath of all Gods.

World War II had already been waging for the better part of two years by the time they opened up Timur's tomb, though. (Four, if you believe it started in 1937 with Japan's invasion of Manchuria.) That, and Hitler was already gearing up to invade, anyway, so even in an ATL scenario where his grave was left undisturbed, I doubt it would've mattered. 😕

Still, it was a disturbingly prophetic warning, even though Operation Barbarossa was already slated to happen regardless. (Hitler arguably being even more twisted than Timur was bound to do that.)

Oh right, I confused my world wars and my disrespected, desecrated dead guys :ROFLMAO:

Still though, these are some fascinating coincidences.

No problem.

Indeed, they are. Not superstitious myself, either, though in hindsight, I guess the fact Hitler was bound to invade anyway doesn't technically rule out, say, Timur having visions of the future on his deathbed that led him to have that inscription carved. (Frankly, whether Genghis had similar premonitions in his twilight years is something I almost don't want to have the answer to.)

Clearly nothing bad happened when Timur the Lame's tomb was opened, why would anything bad happen this time?

Leave him alone, he's likely my Great-Great-Great-Great etc Grandfather! 😡

Timur is Lame Compared to Genghis Khan.

Assuming there was a curse on the tomb then I fully expect a full scale nuclear war in the next few days.
Considering this was posted on 28th July and the tomb was discovered well before the article was written, I would say the nuclear armageddon is well behind the schedule. And that is if the site was not fooled by some pranksters as it would not be the first time the tomb was ''found''. I would wait for the Mongolian National TV reporting on it before celebrating the find.
