The Wife and I were going to go after the crowds settle down or on Streaming. The RLM review is promising as I did enjoy the previous two Guardians movies.

Got to see Guardians 3.

It's...good. I'm a tear-machine whenever sad music is put over anything even half-competently trying to be sad, so it might not be much endorsement to say it got me to cry multiple times, but in my opinion it definitely hits the mark, emotionally, on getting you invested into the shenanigans and flashback, interspecies, furry romance of a CGI racoon. Everything connected to that half/three-quarters of the movie is pretty good (perhaps even surprisingly good), with the way they wrote the villain and the actor portraying him (Chukwudi Iwuji) deserving special thumbs-up. Iwuji manages to present villainous presence and shift-on-dime cartoonish-but-not villainy really well. Racoon and villain related scenes are the best bits of the film.

The bits with Quill/Star-Lord and the rest of the crew are...not good but fine. They're overfilled with 'Marvel humor' and too much undermining of dramatic moments and too much 'cheeky 80s pop music scene!' that...I AM the primary target audience for, being sympathetic to that substyle of the latest Marvel movies, but they do it a LOT of times through the film, like...Four or five or more? And with songs that are much less recognizable than ones that have shown up previously (and I never thought there was any particularly 'well-fitting' song for a scene and they were getting put in just because similar montages had appeared previously so Gunn was just cut-and-pasting these in as time-fillers). They're spectacle-heavy time-fillers but...Film would probly be better off with less of them? As said, the half-plus of the movie more directly tied to Rocket Racoon is good...the maybe-third-plus of the movie on the Guardians and with these time-filling montages and 'witty banter' that only lands sometimes is...much more meh, average Marvel-fare.

Oh yeah. Adam(? Not familiar with the character, but golden-man with weird, light superpowers?) is there and has, like...A C-plot with a little bit of time put to it.
I...don't know why--other than trying to fulfill previous films teasing his presence? He and another are sub-mooks to the main villain and are less characters than plot conveniences. It's an afterthought.

I guess overall I'd...Still actually say it'd be worth paying to see on a screen? Maybe unhesitatingly if someone liked the previous GotG films since it's similar tone and style. If someone was unfamiliar there's a pretty good hour and a half of movie in there and as long as they go in with expectations set to 'surprisingly poignant comic book movie' they'll be fine, and if someone didn't like the previous ones...don't waste time, but it might still even be worth watching sometime on TV/free-streaming/wherever.

I, personally, really liked the Racoon bits and the general theme (but I've said that for each Guardians movie so...I am biased and can't be trusted).

A planet of furries does get blown up, so I mean...If that's your cup of tea then...:p

'Eugenics is evil and mindset is warped' with a subnote of 'maybe animal experimentation should raise your eyebrows'.

The former is done well. The latter is surprisingly subtle (I mean...It's not, but it's not as beat-you-over-the-head *preachy* as you would expect, and it's more powerful precisely because it isn't).

Also an eyebrow-raising (for a modern Hollywood film) line from the writer(s) in a throwaway comment from...someone...about how good was being done or creation wasn't accidental/pointless because of 'the hands that guided the hands' of Rocket's mad-scientist creator. And mad-scientist going deep-endy and calling himself God because life is imperfect is the thing that finally makes his minions turn on him? Like...Both pretty minor, but even those vague allusions to a God or even just universal value on life in a pop-culture product in modern day is surprising.

Thank you for your review, @prinCZess

I'll probably skip. I mean, it sounds like it's a great Rocket Raccoon movie, not necessarily a very good GOTG movie, which is kinda what I'm more interested in.

Honestly I think they used Adam Warlock because people would be familiar with him from the GOTG game.

However Gunn continuing to be the only competent superhero director makes me hopeful for Superman Legacy.

Yeah thanks for the feedback @prinCZess and on the others for what they are planning. It was a pretty good movie and I pretty much agree with her non-spoiler review. There were a lot of tear jerking, geniunely emotionally resonant moments in the film. It made me tear up with shame.

It was pretty much what Ant-man: Quantumania probably should've had when it comes to tone. There was Marvel humor here, especially moreso with James Gunn and sometimes it did seem to detract from the emotional impact or drama of the scene but for the most part it enhanced the entertainment of the film just like it did with the previous Guardians movies. The movie had really strong characters and the main story was sweet and I loved the entire journey.

The action and CGI fest settings were okay. There's a long cut fight with all of the Guardians that lots of people are praising and while it was nice, I don't think it was all that great in overall quality. Don't get me wrong, it was probably a real challenge to film and animate but the final product didn't impact me as much as other iconic 'long cut' action scenes that we've seen in films. The various settings like the Corporate Base and Counter-Earth and Knowhere seemed creative, but honestly it didn't do much for me. I feel like they were neat ideas that just kinda were ho-hum on execution.

The main villain was great. He had some different motivations and the actor who portrayed him did a great job. There's been a lot of comparisons to Kang and unlike some, I thought Jonathan Majors Kang in Quantumania was very well acted, but he wasn't done any real service by the film he was in. The tone of this Guardians movie matched the main villain a lot better and thus everything was better for it. Good villain portrayal in a good film instead of a good villain portrayal in a subpar film.

And yes, Adam Warlock and everything associated with him did seem genuinely tacked on.

Would recommend.

But I don't think that this film is one that needs to be seen in theaters. It's strength isn't in the spectacle but the story itself.

The fact that Knowhere was in there as well makes me suspect even more that some inspiration was taken from the games.

Many Marvel Projects have been cancelled recently, often due to the ongoing Writers Strike.

Blade, Wonder-Man and Thunderbolts, all meant to be Phase Five productions, have all been cancelled in part due to the ongoing Writers Guild Strike as well as two Sony Productions Silk: Spider Society and Spider-Man Noir.

Two Marvel TV Series, Daredevil: Born Again and Agatha: Coven of Chaos faced delayed production issues but are still ongoing.

Chris Brewster, the stunt coordinator and stuntman for many Marvel projects, including Netflix's Daredevil had some things to say about the new Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again.

BoundingIntoComics said:
Sadly, while Brewster had nothing but praise to lavish upon Horn Head's Netflix adventures, he conversely lamented how, "I think that, now that the MCU has taken over the character, they are really, really hurting it."

"If you watched She-Hulk, they turned Daredevil into a cartoon," he said. "It's all animated and it looks bad. I love CG to enhance real movement, but if you don't have any real movement, it just becomes a cartoon. It's just CG. There's no weight to it."

"So I think you know, that She-Hulk was a massive step-down as far as the movement goes and the action," he told Vucic and Dzakovic. "Echo isn't out yet but I've heard it's just as bad. I'd heard they were going to Batgirl it because they weren't happy with it, and now they're doing reshoots and they're planning on airing it – but I think that could also do with the fact that there's a strike, and there's not a lot of content right now, so they're like 'Well, we have it made already'."

Brewster wasn't asked to be involved in the new show and he seems to suggest that the "differences" in this new show they are promoting will really hurt the series. And while much of the old cast has returned, very little if any of the old production crew has.

BoundingIntoComics said:
Returning to the topic of Daredevil's Disney Plus outing, Brewster recalled, "Ultimately, Born Again, I had no doubt that they were gonna reach out to me. Charlie specifically requests me on everything, he always goes out of his way and fights for me to be there, and he asked them over and over to bring me in, and I never even got a phone call."

"Ironically, nobody who worked on seasons one, two, or three, went back," he noted before, in the hopes of truly driving the point home, reiterating, "They really, truly don't want it to be anything like the Marvel Netflix Daredevil, "So, nobody that worked on the original series, other than the cast that they're bringing back, is coming back."

"There were some truly, truly wonderful people who worked on that show, and I think they really added to the magic of that show, and I think that Marvel's making a big mistake," the stuntman concluded. "But what are you going to do?"

Oh crap!

Apparently we're in PHASE FIVE right now of the MCU and have been since the beginning of 2023. Ant-Man and Guardians 3 were both Phase Five films and Uhhh yeah.

I guess they skipped the whole team up movie and it's more arbitrary now.

Jennifer Garner will be returning as Elektra in Deadpool 3 in another Multiverse thing. Hugh Jackman has already confirmed he's going to be in the movie as Wolverine so it's pretty clear Deadpool 3 will be another Multiverse focused MCU film and is apparently considered part of the PHASE FIVE of the MCU.

While I like the general concept of the Multiverse in fiction and fandom, the MCU hasn't exactly been doing all too well with handling it IMHO and with Deadpool being largely a satirical commentary on the themes and topics its covering, it'll probably satirize this whole Multiverse theme pretty heavily which might make for a very entertaining and funny movie, but not be the film that really sells the multiverse concept in the same way Spider-man; No Way Home did (and Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man: Quantumania failed to do IMHO).

Still I think Jennifer Garner is great and while the Deadpool movies aren't big on my list of films to see, having Garner's Elektra show up in it does make me more interested in the film overall. I saw 2004's DareDevil and while the theatrical cut is pretty midtier, though I liked it more then most, the Directors Cut did enhance the films quality and storytelling, fleshing out DareDevil/Matt Murdock and his supporting case a fair bit. The less said about 2005's Elektra the better though.

Well, you can say whatever you want about the Deadpool films, but these men... they clearly know what the public wants.

Just finished watching Secret Invasion and boy... was I kinda disappointed. Thankfully it was only six episodes. It was perfectly watchable but just another show with low budget, rushed storytelling, and just a pale imitation of both the MCU Superhero movies, and spy thrillers in general it was trying to elevate itself to.

Solid acting I will say. And some parts, despite the plot and villain motivations never really making much sense to me, were well crafted scenes or moments. And there was some delicious shlock in Episode Four. But overall... a big meh.

I made a single graphic in MS Paint to summarize the show though... but I feel I made it sound a lot cooler then it actually was.

Yes that's an actual quote from the show the President makes in a televised address lol.

Loki Season Two Trailer.

October 6th on Disney+.

Looks like they found a Jonathan Majors to star in this series that isn't under investigation for multiple allegations of domestic abuse, which is good for continuity. Thank goodness for Marvel's investment in the Multiverse happening when it did.

So supposedly the Director of the $200 million+ Secret Invasion television series of only six episodes recently stated that War Machine/James Rhodes likely has been a Skrull infiltrator since Captain America: Civil War. Needless to say, outside of being a stupid invalidating plot point for much character growth of that character and his interactions with others, and much more, internet nerds quickly compiled many reasons why this was clearly an unplanned retcon.

TLDR

1. Rhodes bleeds red blood (not Skrull purple blood) in Avengers: Endgame.
2. The Stark designed leg braces Rhodes uses are apparently connected to his spinal cord and yet somehow him being a Skrull was never revealed during this medical operation.
3. Somehow Rhodes being a Skrull was never disclosed in his many hospital visits following his catastrophic spinal injury.
4. Iron Man suits are biometrically coded to certain people as revealed in Iron Man 3.
5. Gravik, the Skrull mastermind, would've had to enact his plan seven years before he even had a master plan to enact since Captain America: Civil War took place seven years before Avengers: Endgame.
6. No one was able to detect or sense James Rhodes was a Skrull, most importantly Black Widow but likely also folks like magic users such as Wong, Dr. Strange, Scarlet Witch or people like Vision and Hawkeye etc etc etc.
7. Skrull James Rhodes visited Thanos' uninhabited garden planet in Avengers: Endgame and yet somehow the Skrulls were unable to find a new homeworld after decades of searching the galaxies.

There were other reasons as well, but more related to just how dumb and stupid it is as a retcon that completely invalidates half of the characters history and all that aforementioned stuff.
