Being able to fully level in a single playthrough makes a lot of sense for "first game in a franchise" as opposed to "new standalone game not leading a franchise yet".

Also, removing class-based weapon restrictions makes sense for ME1 considering your player character literally carried all the weapons at all times. It made no sense for Shepard, a skilled special forces operative, to lug around weapons she could not ever use effectively.
Never mattered to me, I guess. I just only ever used what I had her trained up in, and it's not like lugging the others around ever negatively impacted her. 🤷‍♂️

Another example of how any effort to remaster the whole series is going to disproportionately change ME1. It wasn't perfect, sure; ME1's main shortcomings were the railroad plot and the inventory system. But from what it sounds like, they maybe kinda will fix inventory, but the plot will only be more railroady. And everything else is to just tweak gameplay to conform to the ME2/ME3 'console-first' model.

The true test for an RPG used to be whether you had free-roam elements and could complete some elements of the plot "out of order" or not at all (as in, canonically, not just for speedrunners glitching their way through edge cases). So from a game genre perspective, the parts of ME1 where you could pick which mission to do next, and do a side mission or two, are very important things that they ought to leave in.

In retrospect they should have made the ME1 main story longer to play through. Because now there's kind of this attitude that "ME1 is just 10 hours of backstory to play though to get you to ME2/ME3" - rather than - "Wow, what a cool universe based on this unobtanium stuff. Now that your foot is in the door, this is the time to spend 40 hours to explore this new and exciting universe, immerse yourself in the encyclopedia entries and side quests, and set up your game run for the 'best' outcome for your Shepard in the stories to come."

No Pinnacle Station DLC due to source code corruption apparently.

Allegedly it would've taken six months to implement the DLC in this current release so it was left on the cutting room floor.

This paints EA in a pretty bad light, as it suggests they are giving the team working on the remaster very few people and a pretty low budget for this remaster.

In other words, expect a cash grab.

No great loss. You suffered through the first Mass Effect for the story, and Pinnacle Station has no story.

That's pretty much every remaster. They're supposed to be small budget projects to bring beloved games to newer platforms with some QOL improvements.

If you give it a big team and budget, you might as well go full remake.

Maybe it's just me but I never really got getting upset over lack of fanservice (or reduction of fanservice) in vidya. Sure, it's not being cut down on for the same reasons I'd want it cut down on. But it's degen anyway, so whatever.

I never cared for the Miranda, but the double standard in this case is a bit irritating. Thane was literally designed to be Mr Sexy and pander to the game's female playerbase, and that's totally fine and they won't change anything about him, but Miranda being designed as Ms Sexy is a serious issue and we have to go back in and adjust the camera angles because pandering suddenly becomes not ok when men are the target.

EDIT:
The problem was, he was going to be the female love interest. Now that doesn't sound like much if you think about it, but it got us all mixed up a bunch of times, because women were going to have to find this guy attractive. So we asked all the women in the office what they liked in their aliens, and that kind of got us going off a lot of weird directions in the beginning and made it harder than it should have been. As far as men go – like with the Asari – you make her blue and give her the perfect body and you’re good to go. Women are more sophisticated than that.

I'd like to say they're totally wrong about how shallow men are, but I've seen the fanart numbers, and they're not.

Here's the article if anyone is interested.

Sources and quotes and the like. And yes I agree that Mirandas butt is a core component of the Mass Effect sequels and her character in general. Censoring those assets from the game diminishes its attempt to be legendary.

They would have had to pretty much rebuild it from scratch, and it's *not worth it* considering Pinnacle Station was a pretty crappy DLC anyway.

Man, people playing the LE as their first Mass Effect experience are going to miss out on the context for a lot of Ass Effect memes.

So you're telling me I should play the original instead of the remake, then?

Heck, the originals are included with a yearly EA sub anyway, while the legendary edition probably won't be in the sub for another 18-24 months.

Yeah the original Mass Effect games aren't terribly dated or anything. I played them through a few years ago and they seemed find. The gameplay quality improves dramatically I feel between Mass Effect and its sequels but you won't know that until your done if your playing the games chronologically. :p
