Maybe what I'm about to say is a MASSIVE hot take among conservatives but Christianity isn't about establishing Heaven on earth it's about your securing your place in heaven after you die.

um...that's my point. my argument is against King saying that only certain people within the priesthood IE the state should be allowed to interpret scripture with my question being what if that priesthood is corrupt and has its own agenda and is essentially twisting scripture to meet that agenda? His entire argument boils down to "That can't happen because God promised Hell would not prevail" which I counter-argued that his belief is a gross misinterpretation of that scripture. You put blame on the Protestant Reformation/Protestant Thinkers for people like Rousseau, Hegel, and Marx, who came later, even though such thinkers explicitly rejected Christianity.

If you're going to blame people for the ideology of someone else who has rejected the core of said people's ideology, then by logical extension, the Catholic Church and its thinkers are responsible for the Protestant Reformation, and thus for Rousseau, Hegel, etc.

But Christianity also spread outside the Empire - and much like Romans saw Zoroastrianism as Persian propaganda, so did Persians see Christianity as Roman propaganda.

This turned Roman-Persian wars into far worse religious conflicts. Even worse, the incense trade was shut down because Christians did not use the incense (oh irony!). This basically devastated Arab economy, which led to a certain murderous psychopathic cretin to create his own religion that was based on a mix of Judaism, Christianity and InsanityTM. Said religion then pushed outwards, eventually conquering into the central Asia. And this cut off trade between Europe and China, so Europe had to look for another way to get silk, spices and drugs.

This meant that the Inferior Moustache Man had to invade other countries for his ideology to live long and prosper. It is. Roman Catholics seem to do that a lot, I think largely out of ignorance.
Right from the early beginnings of Protestantism (actually it began a century earlier, IMHO, with Wycliffe and Hus, but we'll start with the 16th century) we have the Lutherans ( Justification by Faith Alone, each monarch establishing a state church) and we also have the Swiss guys, sometimes called the Magisterial Reformers, such as Zwingli, and later, Calvin. (Full theocracy, Biblical law as a basis for government, Divine predestination for who will be saved) and then we also have people like the Mennonites (the modern Amish are a Mennonite sect), the Moravians, the Anabaptists ( Calvinists go "Anabaptists? Where? Kill kill kill!") and so on.
And over in England the Anglicans are doing their own thing.
In France there were people like the Jansenists and the Huguenots.

Luther and Zwingli did not get along. They had at least once rather sharp debate about the nature of Communion.

Regarding Skallgrim's complaint about the influence of Plato, I think that's largely the Calvinist/Reformed mindset. While I regard it as a positive good that the 16th-century world managed to break the hold of Aristotle on Theology and on the natural sciences, I don't see Plato as an improvement either.

yeah I agree with Scott by that logic you might as well argue that it was a bad move not striking down Adam and Eve for thier sin and starting over...which to be fair in my darkest moments I have made that argument however foolish it is.
